Lost Title Search For My Sportster (ICBC)

In this video I want to share with you the steps involved in getting new registration papers for a motorcycle that is missing the title. I hope this is helpful to someone!

I forgot what a pain ICBC was to deal with they need to privatize like over here in Alberta..way better it's like a sense of relief when pricing insurance out..I think the last time I did a vin search here it cost 22 dollars or something like that.. informative information though..good job explaining 👍 😊

It is a different process here and more restrictive but for good reason. Too many bikes have disappeared over the years, re-stamped and re-titled easily enough to make the laws change. It does vary by state though so there are ways to get around the laws in the states with the tougher laws. The one I had with no title was purchased by my dad in the mid 40's. I did a bonded title which after 5 years will be converted to regular title. It's a slower process but the legal way to do it here. Dad bought it at a police auction and the DMV doesn't keep records this long.

It definitely looks to be a process to navigate title work in Canada as well as where I live in South Carolina. I did the same type of work for a few years after I retired. Your process is a little less restrictive than what I dealt with. Our next to the last step is a public auction through the local magistrate court before it can be titled. Loved learning how it works up there, and that you now are the owner of the Sportster! Keep riding and stay safe up in your beautiful British Columbia (I spelled it out just for this video :) Peace!

I to got a sportster someone built with no title it has been in the house cent I got it 2 years now they over here call it the DMV in Maine I called them one time and got one of them girls you got in your short video yesterday so shot of really wanting to blow that place to kingdubmcome I gave up so this video may help me down here thank you little one take care.

Wow, its too bad the letter got opened but it sounds like you were successful anyway! Yay! Good job! Its about that involved down here in the states and the whole experience kind of comes down to whoever you have to deal with in the process. Most Bureau of Motor Vehicles people are friendly and helpful but sometimes there can be a couple who are not. Glad yours were!

In Minnesota this is completely different. What you have to do is have your insurance company bond the title, for a fee that I think ranges around 10% (don't quote me in this, been a while since i read it) and then the state will issue you a bonded title and register on that, and will wait a year for the last owner to complain. If they do complain, the state will order the insurance company to pay them the bond for the full value of the vehicle. If no conplaint, they will issue the full title and you can switch back to regular insurance. The states here do not give you anyone's address.

Hi Angel, I am just starting my process to register my bike in France, my biggest problem I cannot speak French, so I’ve got to try and find somebody to do it for me, You seemed raise me straightforward, I’ve been told that I need a certificate of conformity, and I’ve been trying to get one from a dealer, and cannot get one, have to wait and see what happens,

Thats interesting. Its kinda the same in the states but we have to go through the state patrol. Im getting ready to do it with a car i built. A few extra steps cause the car has no vin number

Wow sounds like too much trouble. We purchased a brand new frame, built the bike but still had to have it inspected after the build. Paperwork was limited! Georgia USA

Another comment about how a vehicle is registered in Russia. If the real former owner of the vehicle is already dead, then you ask his relative to inherit this vehicle (this happens through a notary). After relatives inherit, there are two ways: they make out a "Donation" for you, this is through a notary, or through a "Contract of sale of a vehicle" - it's easier and free of charge. And then you go through a technical inspection, take out insurance and register your transport.

BC is different from New Brunswick. Here in New Brunswick if you buy anything without a current registration you are out of luck. The provincial government here will not help at all, these are landfill. Now I have done out of province registrations and redone in New Brunswick. Paying sales tax each time.
