It's insane how much time Harry and Meghan wasted while podcasts were in peak demand. I can see Spotify screaming after 18 months "You need to put something out now!!! Lockdowns are ending! You have wasted a unique opportunity!" And then to release the most self indulgent, self absorbed podcast ever. Also it's obvious that she never intended to include Harry - even though that's what Spotify wanted.

Totally agree. There's a reason people like Joe Rogan have enjoyed the spectacular success they have; they have personality and work hard at this podcast game. Joe was always flying by the seat of his pants, just being himself. When you actually have a great personality and are intellectually curious about the people you're talking to, it makes for a thoroughly engaging podcast interview. Joe could interview the astrophysicists and make them laugh, get their best stories out of them to dazzle and educate the listener. He's equally capable to inviting the local bin men into the studio and proceeding to get a great 2 hours of content from THEM...crying, laughing, talking about their childhood, workplace injustices, neighbourhood observations about humanity, theories about what to do about the environmental issues and so forth. Ribaldry, crude colloquialisms, politically controversial opinions-- he'd allow it all, no judgement, much laughter and honesty. He's always been very relaxed about free speech and letting people just express themselves as they wish, no censorship or uptight obsession with how he's coming across, his 'image and brand' (which M and H are completely fixated upon). There was NO WAY Harry and Meghan with their grotesquely over-produced, uptight corporate exercises in podcasting could EVER have pulled off what a gonzo force of nature like Rogan has. It's not just hard work, it's the type of personalities involved. Your comment nailed it.

I think Spotify thought- it doesn't take a rocket scientist to do a podcast. They weren't looking to m and jh for stellar content but likely figured the duo could speak and that is a large part of the gig. In other words, Spotify assumed they couldn't mess it up as it was dummy proof. They had fame, an audience- the other necessary part. All they had to do was show up as themselves and they could not swing it. A podcast with an actual Megain and JH, talking, sharing, as much as I would never have listened to it, it doesn't sound horrid. But no, it had to be an 80's version of women's victimhood. I believe Megain wants to be Carrie Bradshaw.

Do you remember last year the brouhaha surrounding Joe Rogan’s podcast, where several musicians withdrew from Spotify citing Rogan’s spreading of Covid misinformation? Markle, who at that point had only produced the dumb holiday podcast, released a self righteous statement about how she and Harry had spoken to Spotify about this issue but had decided to continue with their contract in hopes Spotify would rectify the spread of misinformation. It’s a perfect example of MM’s approach to those much greater than herself, which she started in the Palace. She was going to modernize the monarchy, she elevated herself above QE2, she advised KC3 of unconscious bias in the royal family, etc. Her hubris is staggering. So Joe Rogan continues his top podcast, the royal family moves from strength to strength and the arbiter of all wisdom is out in the cold.

It was apparent in the episodes I heard that the guest was nothing more than a ruse, an anchor to give Meghan an excuse to sound off on something in her own experience that she considered unfair. She sounded like she didn't know or care to know the guest or the audience. She was in love with the sound of her own voice. Fake pleasantries and giggles aside, she wasn't interested in anything or anybody else, and nobody could believe it when she would describe them as "my dear friend". Most importantly, the central conceit was flawed: An archetype is an underlying image or identity that embodies a human reality. A stereotype is an accepted prejudice about something that has grown up over time. Her show was about female stereotypes, but it didn't really even explore that. It was about Meghan, the new Queen Of The Universe.

They do not know their audience and do not care, and want to shove their whine on them. Remember when people were famous for having a talent? Before naming a podcast "Archetypes," she should have read some of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung's works. By doing so, she would have realized the misnomer she employed. The podcast should have been called "Stereotypes." Then again I never expected her to know the difference among archetype, stereotype, teletype and linotype.

All the things that meghan has to say about feminism feel old and stale and hopelessly vapid. I also find it weird for her to be talking about stereotypes holding women back and then basically reaching out to powerful, successful women to talk about the stereotypes SHE had ascribed to them. Like if someone reached out to me to talk about how I get called an "angry black woman" I'd be like ma'am you're the one calling me that. Can I talk about my life's work?

I was born in 1949 in Britain. My mum was a housewife. My dad wanted both my brother and I to do well in education and life, though he was old fashioned. We both attended the same grammar school, and had equal opportunities. I was more academic but my brother was practical. I misused all my chances, just having fun, no ambition, bit of a dreamer He failed exams, had ambition and worked hard No one ever stood in my way just because I am female, and I made all my own choices in life. My brother is now a millionaire solely through his own hard work, I am not! He was my spare born in 1951, has helped me many times over the years. Our parents treated us equally but our different status now is all down to our own personality and hard work or lack of it. That's how life goes.

Another reason why Meghan couldn't be bothered to interview the lesser-known guests: as they had expertise in their fields, it would be necessary for the interviewer to do some research and learn about those issues in order to do a credible interview. Staffers can do background research and write her a list of questions, but without understanding it's not possible converse back and forth with someone like that without betraying her ignorance. So it's laziness once again. Meghan can take the time to talk to people like Serena Williams and Sophie Trudeau, whom she already knows, because it doesn't require effort; she already has the background research baked in. But an academic or a writer? She'd have to READ A BOOK! She doesn't have time to waste on that nonsense! She's got a date with the paparazzi to strut around in $80,000 worth of bling and accessories!

Pluto you nailed it again. From the first one I realized that each flopcast would be created to try to dispell the titles she had so effortlessly earned to date. " Difficult", "B word"( This girl with the reputation for swearing like a sailor couldn't say that horribly bad word) "ambitious" and every other stereotype I'd heard used to describe her prior to the podcast. She thought she could manipulate the narrative again!!!😮 I don't think I made it past 4 of them. I, being a former writer, saw through each and every flopcast, interview (H + M's) stupid docuseries that wanted you to believe they weren't 40 yrs old and that it was the greatest love story of all times and all of the other non meaningful, cruel " content" they ( or their assistants) produced. Even their star studded wedding didn't capture my affection. Anyway, I've said it before but if Spotify were to capture the talent of you and a few of my other faves, I can't even imagine what great podcasts they could be proud of. (And you with a full time difficult job as a lawyer stomps her work into the ground.) Anyway I could go on and on but I won't. I'll just thank you for sharing your time and talents with us. One of the impressions I've formed of MM is that she is unlikely to get out of her own way and accept that people who have worked in whatever field she's in at the time know a great deal more than she does. This may have been the problem with Palace staff - I think that, as a boss, MM is probably intimidated by the talent around her rather than grateful for it, and this inferiority may be behind the alleged bullying of staff. When you have someone like that in the workplace, aside from the atmosphere they generate they also cause confusion and delay.

@@kirstenanderson1435 She cannot, and never could, humble herself personally or intellectually to realise that in the UK-- and from the unique vantage point of being INSIDE the royal family-- the entire planet is seen differently to how it is within the American entertainment industry. You must cut your ties and let American self importance go; you are no longer the centre of gravity and you have to see the world from within another paradigm, if you will or risk exposing your limited, parochial, self-important, ignorant thinking, life experience and educational background. The UK has a different history, a different place in the world, different culture and relationship to other countries all informed by OUR history. She patently couldn't switch from self-satisfied, know-it-all Californian dynamo and take some time away from showing off. She never seem to DESIRE to be a curious learner, a more modest, observant student of not just culture and history, but of reality itself. Most enthusiastic, open-minded, intellectually hungry migrants have a weird brush with unintended psychedelia; having your entire perception and understanding of the world turned on it's head simply by wilfully embedding yourself in a foreign culture and learning detached from your previous self-important, self-centred cultural standpoint is REALLY trippy! You realise that all you knew is just PART of the how the world works and you cannot apply your own previous experience, experience and knowledge like a skrim over everything; you have to take a seat and learn anew, from a new perspective entirely-- and marvel! Her arrogance and ignorance combine to undo her. She didn't have the humility and personal curiosity to learn about UK history, tradition, culture, social etiquette and opted to do what the majority of half-hearted migrants do as they're 'just passing through'; which is to remain trapped entirely without self-awareness in their eternally self-referential cultural loop. She didn't want to learn ANYTHING about Europe, the UK, it's people (the ones she said she would dedicate her life to serving in the early dishonest official PR interviews). She didn't excitedly pick up some history books, get fully into documentaries like we all would, thrilled to be in the thick of such action in a new glorious part of the world. Nope. She thought she had merely levelled up and gotten a golden ticket to the land of Ultimate Super Celebrity and that her new position would work for HER and HER ambitions. If she'd been genuinely passionate and interested in monarchy, in British history, society and culture she'd have learned what she was agreeing to be a part of. From the start she and Harry planned to leave. Apparently she was left all alone, with nobody to teach her about court/social etiquette. That's not true. Everyone would have been sent in to coach and educate. Why lie about it? If they weren't, then that's seriously strange. No lessons in curtseying, how to behave at upper class functions. She didn't know the national anthem. Eurch! The early interviews are yet more disgusting bare-faced lies to us. And they wonder why we all dislike and do not respect them. Didn't know about curtseying to the Queen, though it was 'ridiculous' and 'a joke'?! Imagine her moving to Korea and dating a Korean man, having him explain THEIR New Year's Day cultural tradition of getting down in front of their parents, on all fours and bowing with their foreheads touching the ground. Would she have said THAT was 'a ridiculous joke'?! What a cliched, ignorant woman entirely without self-awareness but with an overdose of self-consciousness. Whew. Rant over.

Yep. From the outside (if we didn't know too much about M & H, only the bare basics of their identities and backstory), a podcast idea looks like pure gold. I could envision the most electric, intelligent, insightful, explosive and brilliant podcast from a couple who have their story. As you so wittily stated, and which I'll re phrase slightly here, the reasons for that imagined podcast never happening would be simple to explain: it's because they're mentally underwhelming, creatively untalented, emotionally very immature and morally polluted as individuals. They have awful personalities, psychological issues that are troubling and disruptive and intellects that will permanently underperform due to the ugly influence of their self-entitlement and parochial upbringings getting into every thought that comes into their head Neither are well-integrated as thinkers or personalities. They're incredibly self-conscious and they (ironically for Megan), come off as uptight, performative and entirely preconceived. That doesn't resonate with listeners/readers. Image obsessed and careful about every single thing they say, lest it tarnish the image and brand they're trying to create through such ugly strategizing. Their podcast was not what one could have imagined it being. I can close my eyes and envision something else entirely. Such a golden opportunity blown. But the reason that great podcast I'm imagining DID NOT happen is because they're not actually capable as people. They're a pair of self aggrandising, bloated, paranoid, controlling dumbos who see themselves as smarter than they are and toil in this deluded, entitled state churning out the most derivative, outdated, generic nonsense, entirely oblivious to their being overtaken in public discourse before they've even opened their mouths.

Serena: so yeah i won a game after pulling an allnighter with my child thay had a feve... Meghan: YEAH YEAH? well MY child...almost burns and dies in a fire!!!!! Yeah!!! Who got it worse????? Ps: it was faulty wiring on a house appliance and there was some smoke, not a spark or a fire and baby was never in danger.

Just one question: how did she think she could get away with this? Answer: mind of a magical thinking teen ager. (They can’t possibly have children under their care)

It’s shocking how this whole drama exposed Harry as a country bumpkin prince.

I hope you get to read this, Pluto, and take it in the good spirit it is meant. When you sit in front of that book shelf, you have an upright growing up and out from behind your head. I'm a photographer of several decades and one of the first things I was taught (does it no longer apply?), especially in wedding reportage, is to avoid precisely that, at all costs: tree trunks or branches, posts and poles, even architraves, etc... Out in the field, quite easy: move the camera one of two feet to one side or ask the subject to do so. You know your surroundings so I can't comment on what other background is available to you. Just a comment from a pedantic old geezer who hopes to not offend you. As for your podcasts, excellent, I enjoy every one of them, including Zach; keep up the good work. A subscriber.

What I love about Pluto's podcasts is her analysis. There's depth and tons of research behind the episodes and her legal take is often spot on. Take note, Meghan, this is how you create a great podcast!

H&M were never paid 20M & 130M from Spotify/Netflix. Megan's PR company started the rumours on Twitter (I remember many Royalist KZbinrs tracing it back to the first tweets) & the networks said nothing cuz it made them look rich af. A former Netflix employee said it was likelier they were paid 5m to be on retainer for 5 years as they had zero experience.

She talked to Serena about 'ambition' (in which she gave a dig to the RF that they made her think that was a bad thing) - as if a struggling actress that she wound up appearing in a game show and cable tv show - to Serena, who had endured Samurai-like training since childhood to become one of the top female tennis players in the world is the same 'ambition'. Then she told ridiculous stories such as her assignment to plan a wedding in religious class (5 minutes no kidding). She tried to identify with her guests: 'I'm 43% Nigerian! I went to Korean spas all the time! I was also objectified!, I love Compton!, etc. She made several digs at the RF, saying they 'forced' her to go to a Royal obligation after Archie's room went on fire (lie) - and after The Queen's passing they had to put her podcast on hold for a few weeks in order to edit out all of her other insults toward the RF. The podcast was all about her and like you said, it was just like their series - her trying to invalidate all the stories about her, which were true.
