Who are we? 💁🏼‍♀️
We're Tom and Iz, a young couple from Cornwall, the UK, who live and travel full time in our van La Bamba. We love nature and try to spend as much time as possible wild swimming, hiking and being outdoors! 10 years ago we had a whirlwind summer romance, then went our separate ways to travel and go to university and fast forward 4 years later, we found ourselves back in the same place at the same time as each other and the rest is history.
Why Van Life? 🚐
We bought the van back in 2019 whilst Iz was training to be a secondary science teacher. "Van Life" isn't something I had followed online during my teacher training, but within days of my brothers showing me KZbin videos of people living in vans, I became obsessed. I was really unhappy in my training and very stressed.
"Van Life" was an escapism for me and it represented freedom. I had some money saved up and my brothers showed me our van "La Bamba" on gumtree. I forced myself to sleep on it and the next day I asked my dad if he would come with me to Bournemouth to view it. Meanwhile Tom is in Estonia on a stag do for his best friend. We haven't spoken about getting a van before and I know nothing about what makes a van good and no idea on van conversions! But I buy it! I phone Tom to say we now have a van - whoops! We were all so excited. With the help of my brothers and the space on my mum's drive (and lots of KZbin videos) and alongside full time work and uni, we convert her to live in! 🛠
Two years later and Iz finds work she can do remotely from the van and Tom starts our KZbin channel. 📸
Since then we haven't looked back and when the pandemic allowed us to, we travelled to Spain, Portugal, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and most recently we have completed a road trip from Cornwall to Estonia (via Norway). 🎥

The Ahoy greeting is probably the most widely used informal greeting in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. I was born in 1969 and we always greeted each other like that. Another very popular greeting is "chau", apparently taken from the Italian "ciao"...😄 p.s. I am glad that you liked our place so much.

That hike looked insanely fun. I'd love to have something like that here in Ireland but I imagine it would be shut down the moment someone fell off a wet log and broke their ankle. There's a cliff walk near me that's way safer than that hike with safety railings everywhere, but you can't do it except as part of a group with safety equipment and a supervisor.

Excellent channel and videos. A really nice couple of people. Your videos are always fun to watch. You've quickly become one of my favourite channels to watch. You aren't quite up to the standard of Loki the Raven as presenters just yet though. Loki is a rescue Raven from the UK who runs his own channel. A couple of slave humans help him with administrative duties and prepare his meals so he can focus on flying, etc and the scripts for his videos. That being said, Loki can't drive a van as DVLA won't issue him a licence. So you have him beat on that respect. Good luck guys . Be safe on your travels.

Nice...I'm a local and Veľký Sokol is my favourite hike in the Slovak Paradise as well. It's much wilder and not as visited as some other gorges here. Btw. the water reservoir, Dedinky has the coldest water in the whole Slovakia (out of all the reservoirs I guess?? Haha).

I have been watching you since you went to Norway and love your channel. You are so good at telling us about the places you visit, not just going there and sitting on beaches or drinking coffee. I love that you absolutely love the countryside and the beautiful woods and forests. It makes me feel young again as if I were doing it with you. Hi, the hike looked so different to the usual tidied paths and health and safety railings. Loved how all the fallen trees had been left to decompose naturally and you had to traverse using the home-made ladders. Great to see you have so much fun and enjoyment where-ever you are. If I see all the dropped down timber it looks like on some paths in bohemian Switzerland where I would say it's recommended to carry a Husqvarna or Stihl. 😊Sadly in Czech and Slovakia nowadays most say dobry den and not ahoy like in the movies from the seventies or eighties nowadays.

To my understanding, many todays forests in Europe are "artificial", originally cultivated in medieval times (and early) for wood, sticks, firewood, hunting etc. Late they were left and returned to current "wild" nature (Lindybeige has video about none of UK forests to be original wild ones, all are remnants of old cultivated ones). Slovensky Raj is forest that was never cultivated, therefore it is natures paradise.

Yes you could, ive done the paradise hike quite a few times and i regularly see older people hiking there. I took my boyfriend and his stepdad who is 60 there, and he has done it and loved it. Thera are also many different routes, from easy to difficult, so you can choose which one you are the most comfortable with.
