Ryan & George , Gene Simmons of KISS went to a club in L.A. to see a band called The Boyz which had Lynch on guitar. The opening band was Van Halen. After Simmons saw Van Halen he left the club and never saw Lynch's band. Simmons helped VH put together their demo tape which got them on the road to stardom. IMO Lynch always had a chip on his shoulder after that incident and to show people he was a capable guitarist would sometimes go overboard to prove to people he had the chops. To his credit he does have a recognizable style that set him apart from most of the L.A. based EVH wannabes. I think you guys would like his band he formed after Dokken called Lynch Mob a lot more. It's bluesier & grooves hard and his solo playing is fantastic. Check out Lynch Mob album Wicked Sensation. That whole album rocks.

Fun fact on George Lynch. He's great friends with Warren De Martini from Ratt and Jake E Lee from Ozzy/Badlands. George left Dokken after Breaking the chains to tour with Ozzy and was told he was getting the gig for Ozzy. This was to happen when Brad Gillis was going to leave to do Night Ranger full time. Backing up, George taught guitar and Randy Rhodes school and one of his students was Warren. Later, Warren got much better obviously, he helped George work out the parts and learn all of Randy Rhodes parts to join Ozzy. At that time, Warren actually joined Dokken after George left. Meanwhile, the band "Mickey Ratt" had Jake E. Lee playing guitar for them. Well, George at the time had cut his hair and died it half black and white and Ozzy and Sharon didn't like his look. They were really into "the look" for a guitarist. Ozzy had more auditions, Jake came to one and Ozzy gave the gig to Jake over George and Jake believes it was over looks because he says his audition was not his very best because he was nervous because it was Ozzy. So he joins Ozzy and calls Jake about the gig in "Mickey Ratt" and he joins what became Ratt. George went back to Dokken. The rest is history. Also, Don Dokken, he is plugged in to everyone in Hollywood. Don knows everyone and has produced several bands and done behind the scenes backing vocals and production for so many bands, ex, XYZ, Scorpions, etc. What a time the LA sunset strip was back in the 80-90's...

The thing people dont understand about the guitar players of the 80s was that it was a competition to be the top player. EVH, Randy Rhoads, George Lynch, Warren DeMartini, etc. They would close out the album with some shredding on top of smoking solos. Can't recall but there was a solo of the year award and Lynch won for In My Dreams. Plus, he and Don Dokken hated each other guts so Don would sing louder and George would shred even harder. My favorite band from that area in a tie with Ratt. You guys are dead on with Ratt! The song from that Nightmare on Elm Street was called Dream Warriors. The this about George Lynch on guitar is, he was so good that they had to let him go off. Even if he tried to be subtle, it sounded like showing off. He just had it, like Eddie Van Halen, Dimebag, Randy Rhodes, John Petrucci, Yngwie, etc. He wasn't as universally recognized because of the stigma attached to the scene he came from. But listening to those old albums, and looking at concert footage, it was clear that he belonged in the same breath as the other greats. Also yeah, it was a totally normal and standard thing back then to have extended sections for guitar solos. People loved to hear the shredders. It's not as much of a novelty these days but there are still those carrying the torch.

Dokken scored 3 platinum records in the 80's that defined the hard rock genre... 'Tooth and nail' (1984)... 'Under lock & key' (1985)... and 'Back for the attack' (1987)... Their 1988 live album 'Beast from the East' is considered 1 of the greatest live records of hard rock. The classic line-up of Don Dokken (vocals), George Lynch (guitar), Jeff Pilson (bass) and Mick Brown (drums) ... is iconic 🤘🤘but they couldn't keep it together because of Don and George's conflicts and the band split up in 1989. Don Dokken released a stellar solo album 'Up from the ashes' in 1990 w/ an all-star line up of Peter Baltes (bassist of Accept), John Norum (guitarist of Europe), Mikkey Dee (drummer of King Diamond, Motorhead, Scorpions) and Billy White (guitarist of Watchtower)... but it was not a major success. Dokken reunited in 1994 and released 'Dysfunctional' in 1995, which was a departure from 80's rock... it sold gold in the US. An acoustic set from 1994 was released in 1996 as 'One live night'... However, guitarist George Lynch's obsession w/ 90's grunge rock led to the creation of the 1997 album 'Shadow life'... which was a commercial failure and led to Lynch being fired in 1998. Winger guitarist Reb Beach joined for Dokken's 1999 album 'Erase the slate' which marked a return to hard rock... and the 2000 live album 'Live from the Sun'... However, both Beach & bassist Jeff Pilson were out of Dokken by 2001... Europe's guitarist John Norum recorded 1 Dokken album 'Long way home' (2002) before leaving to reunite w/ Europe in 2004. John Levin (guitar) joined Dokken in 2004 for the album 'Hell to pay' and has remained in the band til today... Their 2008 album 'Lightning strikes again' was the last to feature drummer Mick Brown, who seems to have retired due to health issues... Dokken released 'Broken bones' in 2012, and are gearing to release their latest album 'Heaven comes down' in 2023 w/ no original members in Dokken. Most people recommend the classic 80's songs by Dokken, but they have released some underrated songs since reforming in 1994... Some forgotten bangers by Dokken - 'Change the world' ... 'Too high to fly' ... 'The Maze' ... 'Puppet on a string'... "Don't bring me down"...🤘🤘🔥🔥
