The way Nick handled the divorce was surprisingly mature. No messy drama, just a clean break for the sake of their kids. It's sad to see a marriage end, but sometimes it's for the best. Here's hoping they both find happiness again, separately.

Most dubious part: Emily self-reflects on the hurt she caused Nick after he withheld his promotion news. Women never regret hurting men and when they do hurt men, they revel in the pain they cause.

Nice story and well thought out. Marriage without trust is not a marriage it become a living situation minus the deep bond. Oxytocin "the love hormone" activates the reward system, thus maintaining the bond between the lovers promoting monogamy and stability. Lust is not love but people do chase it. It is the adrenaline rush where the person begins to lose self control and seek a pleasure high. Until Emily understand the mechanism that created the problem she would be fair game in the future. 👍

She decided that she wanted some excitement and didn't care that committing adultery is a marriage killer! Even if he stops her from cheating this time, she will do it again and try to hide it even better next time! Divorce is the best choice for Nick!

@UncleA88 no he shouldn't, that's garbage. "Staying for the children" does more harm than good. You're creating a loveless environment (with no trust) for the children, that they eventually pick up on. They unintentionally normalize crappy relationships for the kids.

@@UncleA88 Cheating happens when the person gets married not when they are single. Cheating is a psychological process when the person is bored, and in a committed relationship. It is driven by the excitement of sneaking around. Many cheaters do not last with their affair partner once they are divorce. One of the reasons being there is no longer the dopamine rush. It is up to Emily not her husband to learn what causes cheating and how to prevent it. The story gave plenty of clues. She was bored and she felt young again like in high school sneaking around.

Following the divorce she neither dated nor did she have another relationship, on the chance that they would reunite. To me, that indicates that she was truly sorry and was committed to him. That dynamic might have changed were he to give it a second chance, but in this case, he was too rigid - IMO.

Okay, it is becoming clear to me that someone at lost love, hates a dude named "Jason". And, way to tank a happy ending... Here's an idea for your next story; "All the children in the orphanage, were sure that Santa would come. But on christmas morning, 32 children rushed into the common area to see no presents under the tree. As tears welled up in more than 60 eyes. Little "Timmy" noticed a ribbon in the fire place. When he looked, he could see presents caught up in the chimney. He tugged and presents cascaded out of the fireplace. 32 faces lit up, tears of sorrow replaced by tears of joy. And that's when "Jason" noticed something stuck in the chimney, it was Santas corpse. The End... 😉

He handled it in a terrible way. The issue was their days became mundane. So instead of fixing that issue with regular dates, random trip etc. He demanded her be a better wife with no extra involvement or effort on his part. Yes she was the one that did wrong. Sheesh. The way he handled the emotional affair was tremendous. And I can understand the trust being gone. I just wonder, since neither of them ever dated again, if they couldn’t have started some kind of relationship, FWB, best friends, together but not married - something. Sounds like she was faithful for 14 years, even when she didn’t have to be. Sad. Good story. Very believable characters.

I mean, she wound him, break his heart, yet she expect him to start courting her again???? She's the one at fault, ergo, she's the one who has to make amend. Heck, she could offer to wear chastity belt....

Actually that is not normally the case. Science is catching up to this problem. This problem is not for the victim to solve. Emily needs counseling to understand that the spark or adrenaline rush is lust and can destroy a marriage. She needs to learn self control and how to be happy as a mom and wife. She should be focused on her Oxytocin level "the love hormone", not the pleasure high which drives Dopamine rush.

Another wife who's bored with the responsibilities of married life and wants to feel like a teenager again. She over-values herself as a wife, and thinks a "fling" is just harmless fun. She wants to "have her cake and eat it, too". She's got her stable, comfortable life with her husband, while having her exciting AP on the side. The one thing that makes a gal gain attraction to her long-term partner is when her partner gets attention from another woman. This is what made Emily reject Jason's request to have s-x. All she was thinking about was how Nick would be getting s-x from another woman. The allure of feeling young and desirable to a back-seat to her thinking about her husband with another woman. Good for Nick for divorcing Emily. He could never trust her again. Her letter is a typical response from gals who've had their partner leave them after they've cheated. They cling to hope that they will get their partner back, knowing, of course, that THEY'VE been the one to have had the "fling", and gotten the chance to be with someone else behind their partner's back. This gives them the POWER, because they know they would've divorced their partner immediately had things been reversed.

Really good stories Mr. Chronicles, you have put a lot of thought into your stories. I feel a little philosophical tonight. 1. Romance, what is Romance? I know what women consider it to be, men consider it to be a mechanism into a woman’s pants and maybe heart later. Is romance actually necessary? Must every moment be consumed with wild passionate activities? Is it practical? I believe that a woman and a man should love each other. But if them staying together depends upon him behaving in erratic and frenetic overtures at regular intervals, it is NOT sustainable.. Ultimately it boils down to maturity, and BOTH partners understand at the outset that marriage is for life. 2. A woman is created to have ONE sexual partner for life. WHY US THIS? A. Spiritual Bonding. B. Physical bonding ( proven by a university of Seattle Circa 2017 study on women’s cancer. They found out that every man a woman has sex with has the DNA with every Bucko, Mon Jack, Tyrone, Julio, or whoever embedded into their brain) Why is this? What are the implications? Does it as I and others have a subtle influence on the woman? I believe even ONE does. Have done kind of affectation on the woman. C. Spirit ties. Every person you have sex with you develop a spirit tie with. This is why often a spouse will “sense” something is wrong. D. Pheromones, specifically Oxytocin the bonding hormone is released and another link is forged. It seems that women crave “romance” more than males, why? It appeals to their ego. Someone is pursuing them! They must be hot! They feel more validated. So if an outsider offers them these feelings, they will tend to pursue him. Behind most adulterous women is some scumbag that is trying to bed them. He knows what to say, how to dress, he might not even be that attractive, but it’s all right, see he makes them “feel”a certain way. It is addictive! So when ladies uyou feel unddepreciated, bored and or whatever, do some noble acts! Learn a new skill(Not seducing men, that’s too easy anyway), Visit the sick(of the same sex, minister to the orphan and widow, read aproverbs 31 and here are just SOME of the things that a virtuous woman does. Proverbs 31:10-21 (KJV): price is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. 13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. 14 She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. 15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. 16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. 17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. 18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. 19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. 20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. 21 Sounds like an EMPOWERED woman to me, empowered to do good. Be learning, be on your game, learn good things If more women paid heed to Proverbs 31 and were taught as such there would not be the epidemic of whoring and adultery we are seeing.

Actually, the story is in-line with reality. The husband wanted stability and a deep bond based on trust. His trust was gone. Emily was trying but she was a mom, married 11 years who got giddy like a teenager chasing the adrenaline rush. He knows he can't stop her from crossing the line in the future which is why trust and stability was gone. Ego has nothing to do with it. It is actually hormonal. Oxytocin plays a central role in social behaviors used to define social monogamy. This is why love making turned into physical pleasure for her husband.

There is no salvaging this.....if the other party blatantly disrespects you there is only one response...especially if that party is the woman...the womans only selling point is fidelity not her money or her status so if that goes out of the window she is practically useless..if he "saved" his marriage he would not only live a life where he would look over his shoulder for it to happen again PLUS she would lose all respect for him for forgiving her not to mention that the next time she gets the "itch" she would know that there is an establish path of forgiveness and she would be even less hesitant....its a vicious cycle and the only thing that works is a clean break....his only mistake is that he tried to stop it...he should have left her do it,gather the evidence and divorce her immediately and move on....

He did hold to his convictions, but, I think that in this particular case the needed lessons were learned and forgiveness would have saved both participants lives. Instead they both moved ahead sad and lonely. Isn't forgiveness the cornerstone of the principles of Christianity that we (a lot of us anyway) are raised on? Just my thoughts, wrong or right.
