Way back in Season 1 of the anime, there was an episode where a Ponyta evolves into Rapidash while Ash is riding on its back, and the glow of evolution can be clearly seen to surround Ash along with the Ponyta. The very first time I saw that scene back in the late 90s I immediately suspected Ash had gained some small measure of pokémon power in that event, and I don't mind headcanoning that as an explanation for any improbable thing he's done since.

Also the recent ultimate journeys anime showed off a banette who was formed from loving memories enveloping a discarded plush toy and it desperately sought it's former owner to get back to the good old days in it's mind.

I was just fascinated with space and liked Science Fiction.
