Brilliant video! We left home and our Swift caravan lock worked. We got to the site and 5 minutes later it wouldn't lock. Couldn't get the key in the lock. Fortunately there was a caravan accessories store close by and they suggested a new barrel and to watch a video first. I hit on your video Phil. I watched it through then again, following it closely while changing the barrel. You explained it all really well. My problem was you couldn't get the key in the broken barrel to remove it from.it's housing but after much persistence the old barrel suddenly came out. Joy! And then it all went back together and we have a caravan that you can now lock and unlock! Thanks Phil for saving us lots of money. Anyone want their door lock changed?!? And I am a 76 year old female!!!

Hi Phil lovely to see your lock is fully functional. Changing the barrel is very cost effective a new assembly is expensive. Thanks for the mentioning Colin’s Caravan Capers. Between us we’ve probably covered most angles. 👍

Hi. I am glad you liked the video. They are not easy to record but worth while. It is also nice to know that we have Viewers in Germany and Europe in general. Hope you are enjoying your Sprite. Thanks Phil👍🙂

Looks a pain Phil, not sure how true it is but i have read that using the flip key is one of the main reasons for the locks breaking, no idea how i would get into mine as the only locker we have is a lot smaller than yours!!!
@lostweekendscaravan6 ай бұрын
Hi Paul. I think the flip key is not an issue. If the lock oiled/greased on a regular basis then it will become weak.. I noticed my lock was going before it went as it became increasingly more difficult to open. Perhaps as most people use the flip key they seem to blame the key instead of a poorly designed lock and lack of care? Yes it is a pain but I saved £100 in labour doing it myself. I hope you don't have the same issue. Thanks Phil👍🙂

Phil, it would be interesting to see to what extent your van is overhung by trees. We moved ours from Alderstead Heath site after 20 years. It was always under a massive oak tree which had pretty much destroyed our bailey pageant as well as about 3 covers which eventually we dispensed with as the wouldn't let you keep the cover on the bay. Last year we bought a '21 Alpine2 but decided to move it to Gatwick where there's minimal trees and nothing over us. I'm itching to visit it to see if its made any difference. Great vid by the way.

Hi. The trees do not over hang but they do assist in turning the van green. I am on the list to move it to the other side away from the trees. I had an issue last year with mould around the sky lights when the cover was on. I think i left it on too long. Good luck with your caravan and welcome to the Swift Caravan Family. Many Thanks Phil🙂👍

Very informative, does the lock come with a new key?
@lostweekendscaravan9 ай бұрын
Hi There. Very good question. The answer is no this lock matches my key. On your key there is a ref number, quote that number and it will work with your key. I did not mention it in case someone with the wrong idea watched it. I bought from Granthams as they were the cheapest around plus they had them in stock. Thanks Phil👍🙂

Another good job done Phil 👍. Were you a locksmith in your previous life as you seem to know how they come apart 😁. So you were able to use the same key ? A good video for anyone to look back at should they have to replace not just the barrel but the whole handle mechanism. Comical how you disappeared into the caravan 😂. Cheers Rob

Hi Rob. I had to open quite a few doors in my past job. Yes it is the original key as the lock has a serial number. What it did show I need to loose some weight. Thanks Phil👍🙂

Great video again Phil, I heard you saying when you came back between Xmas & New Year you put the key in and it was spinning, do you think someone tried to break in ??
@lostweekendscaravan9 ай бұрын
Hi Joe. To be honest no. The lock had been playing up before I put it away. They are a very poorly made lock in the first place. The alloy is very cheaply cast. Thanks for the thought though. Cheers Phil👍🙂

Hi Hans. Yes it was, but worth it. I would have been charged about £100 at my Dealers. It only cost me £20 for the new lock. It longer to record the film. Thanks Phil👍🙂

I guess once in you had to push the mattress up? Biggest nightmare being locked out of anything. Oddly enough the batteries need changing in my CO2 Monitor...😮

Hi Martin. Yes the mattress was pushed up it was like doing a work out lifting. I am glad I reminded you re your alarm. Thanks Phil👍🙂
