Today we are doing a lotion bar recipe, but I'm also gonna put on my teacher cap and talk about why you should learn fatty acid profiles and not just trust the recipes some random person on the internet posts. Enjoy! Also, buy these lotion bars.

Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

Many thnaks for your "lotion bar series". I've been watching your videos about this subject, and today I have done mine, following your tips, and... tadaa!! I really love it. As you say, it won't feel greasy at all and besides that, it moisturizes. I liked the ones I did, because the left a moiturized and silky skin, but they were of very low absroption, and I had to wait a moment (my meditation time P-)) to dress or touch anything. This problem is finished now, so THANK YOU, my best wishes for you. A hug from Spain

This was a good reminder for me to play with my recipe for specific skincare needs. I usually just go with my standard cocoa butter, mango butter, Gravesend and hemp oil. This however, made me think about reevaluate for the season at hand....versus a standard recipe. The season often dictates what the skin needs. Thanks for the reminder! 😊❤😊

These are basically the oils I used in my lotion bar. I never used arrow root before though. I’ll swap out mango for Shea sometimes. Shea is still my favorite. It’s so easy to make and I can have scents to match or compliment my perfume addictions. I still never made a pretty looking one though. The colors I tried are always muddy. I want to make a bronzing sparkly one for summer. That will probably rub all over my clothes but what the heck. You only live once, I think. That I remember anyways.

First of all, I love your videos; so informative! Secondly, I made these bars yesterday, with the only substitution being sweet almond oil for apricot oil. Mine resulted in a soft bar, too soft for a lotion bar, as it melts in my hand. I did stick blend the oils, because my kaolin clay wasn't blending well. Oh, and I added a bit of carrot powder. Would that be why this is such a soft bar? It feels so luxurious; I hate to throw it out. Can I remelt the bars and pour it into an applicator tube? Thanks.
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay Жыл бұрын
Hey! I don’t think those additions would make it soft, but remelting, adding a bit more of the firmer butters or waxes and repouring is totally a thing you can do with these! Have fun!

i don't like anything greasy either. I am watching this video again because I enjoy this channel. If you were to give the recipe by percentage how would you go about the hard, liquid and FO. As far as adding FO, how do I calculate that. I been working on the number and I am just confuse because I don't want light scent at all. I find that mango butter would be a great addition. The reason I am asking for percentage because I want to make small batches.

Wonder if I can get some help with this. A few days ago I bid this recipe with beeswax all other ingredients were spot on. It was too greasy. I would not carry around the bar because of it being so greasy. I decreased the shea butter and it was a little less greasy. Next batch I increased the arrow root and while I could feel that it was less greasy, it still was(arrow root was doubled). I had some mango oil on the way which got here today so I went back to the original recipe and swapped the mango in for the shea and it's greasy. A few friends tried the bar and said it was too greasy. I'd like the bar to be more solid (less greasy when just in your hand). I'm new to soaping so I may not be describing things using the correct terms. I wanted to start with this recipe and play. I'd really like a bar where the bar feels like a soap bar and the warmth of your skin is what melts the lotion. As it stands, the bar is melting as I pick it up and that's what I call greasy. Thank you for any help. I'm wondering if adding more beeswax for hardness would firm up the bar and cut the greasyness. But I'm new and just guessing at things. An this gets expensive fast.

I've actually tried making lotion bars! They were fun. I may need to play around with my recipe based on this instruction but I wanted to really avoid the greasy factor when I formulated it because I HATE hate hate greasy lotion. So my recipe is beeswax (there's some ethical concerns I've heard about regarding the production of candellila wax), mango seed butter, and equal parts grape seed, apricot kernel, and sweet almond oil. I've been adding vitamin e oil as an antioxidant to help extend the shelf life and reduce the chance of anything going rancid. Do you have any input or opinion on that and/or if it helps? I know as a waterless product I don't need a broad spectrum preservative though.
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay 3 жыл бұрын
Vitamin E is great for the skin regardless, so do that thing. As far as extending the shelf life, it’s not necessary. But awesome in a leave on product anyway! To the candelilla thing - it’s such a tough decision to make for ALL things we choose to put into our products. And nothing is really right or wrong - it all depends on what your focus is. I think as long as we all try to do our best with the info we have, we are doing the right thing for our products and the planet. ❤️

Add co emulsifier.like cetearyl or cetyl alcohol. Or add an emulsifier and do a fondant or solid cream. I prefer always traditional body creams all the way though,because of the grease.i did one that feels like you wear nothing on your skin.i have to change the formulation bc it was too much penetrating.
