The Ride of the Rohirrim is, IMHO, the best cavalry charge ever filmed. Bernard Hill owned the role of Theoden.

That charge was based on cavalry charges of the Napoleonic wars, namely the ones filmed in Colonel Chabert (FRA) and Waterloo (RUS). Those were the last day of true cavalry charges and they were even larger than what they filmed in LOTR. It's insane that these things happened in real life.

This is one of the true winners of this story. for the kind of man his name stands byside of Barahir, Beren, Eärendil the long and Aragon himself. A Kind that was stronger then suffering, lost of family and darkness. a true hero of the third age.
