Melkor must have felt utter despair in this moment. Such little, trivial creatures, the Children of Ilúvatar. He had long since been banished by his brothers and sisters, yet his lieutenant continued to press the affairs of mortals in his favor. The elves were stubborn and noble, yet waning in majesty and might of arms. These "men" - and their hobbit brethren - would inherit their Middle Earth. They were short of stature, plainspoken, narrow both in age and in wisdom. They gave little thought to how their actions bore on the ages ahead, if they did in fact at all. Yet here, alone in the dark, in spite of all the anguish and despair that his servant could write into the heart of this little being, one stood. In solemnity, in utter defiance. The discord Melkor had sung into the Music of Creation itself was for naught, as this hobbit, this man, alone, defied him. Somehow Morgoth had failed to overcome the theme of Eru, The One, in eons past, across time immemorial, and now that music bore its greatest fruit, its grandest cadence, echoing throughout all creation. Evil had failed utterly.

At 1:40 Sam’s grief for Frodo’s condition turns to righteous resolve. The hopeful strings come back and then bam 1:49 the horn of unwavering loyalty and bravery. Why is there so much water in my eyes

Sean Astin will forever be Samwise Gamgee in the hearts of those who love the trilogy. The thing I love the most is that, for someone who knew nothing about LotR (he was an American Literature major in college), Sean is the one who does the most to keep and promote the story's legacy. He GETS Sam. The others were excellent (there wasn't a bad casting choice in any part of the film--and yes, I consider it one very LONG film)...but Sean stands out above the rest. To this day I feel he was robbed of an Oscar nomination that he deserved--and Peter Jackson felt that way as well. I could say that I would love a friend like Sam, but what I really need to say is that I need to BE a friend like Sam.

But I read these books when I was just 11 years old. These films mean more to be that i can put into words.
