I really appreciate deep lotr lore and the research work for such a video! I also struggled with elves not being able to play mariners and I support your effort to change that :D I also got a channel membership! Keep going!

Hah! So I'm not the only one who noticed. Maybe one day they'll be able to be Elves. Thanks for the membership! Enjoy the badge/emotes...but the main thing it gets you is a direct infusion of motivation on my end to keep working hard on the channel.

Oh, this was super fun to watch. I love how LOTRO (generally) is true to the lore.

For sure. I didn't mean to be critical of SSG, its all in good fun. Like you said, they are actually excellent in terms of sticking to the lore and being faithful to the source material.

I love the amount of thought you put into your character creation

Would have been nice if they had added the Falathrim and the Grey Havens as origin/lineage options. Always wanted to meet Cirdan. Nicely done!

For sure. Cirdan is such an underrated character in LOTR. He's critical in the literature, but seldom makes an appearance in the movies/shows/games etc.

Great video! Fully agree on the strange race choices for Mariners! Not only the non-availibility to Elves, but why River-Hobbits and especially why Stout-Axes??? Also I personally don't think High-Elves are very appropriate since none of the Teleri [1] returned to Middle-earth, only Feanor's followers came by (stolen) boats, so they shouldn't really count. BTW, I always thought Sindar referred to both Eglath and Falathrim, i.e. all Elves who chose to remain in Beleriand when the Teleri were ferried into the West. [1] with the possible exception of Celeborn, depending on which of his origin stories you choose

You're probably right about the Sindar. The sundering of the Elves and what they eventually end up being called can get pretty confusing.

Great video! My guess is that Mariner will become available for other races although I wouldn’t place a bet on the timing. The issue isn’t lore, or intention, but skill animations.

Ah, good point. I hadn't considered that.

Amazing job, man! I really don't understand some of the race/class policies in LOTRO. On one hand they can do with some more limitations (they relax them way too much at some point) but on the other, like in this case they warped it a bit too much ( -River hobbit- Stout-Axe, really?).

I think they are more concerned about how the race/class dynamics affect gameplay. They don't want a race that can be every class. Likewise, I'm sure they want to encourage people to get some of the premium races by putting class restrictions.

Very interesting video, sad they didn't make it lore-accurate

I think it was just a minor oversight on their part. In general, the team is excellent about sticking with the lore.
