That was an overpowered Iowa Northern train that you caught on the Canadian National on its way to Cedar Falss Junction on its way north. The Norfolk Southern powered empty ethanol train had the usual three black Norfolk Southern engines on the front. The airplane circling around the to go back to the Waterloo, Iowa Airport was a bonus to this video. Thank you for documenting these trains, Red!

The Iowa Northern always puts huge amounts of power on their Cedar Rapids jobs. It has to do with a hill they have to clear in the south end of Cedar Rapids. Trouble for fans is, these trains often move in the pitch dark, at least in my experience.

Nothing like being Trackside with your best buddies of course they'll expect you to pick up the dinner tab tonight. I think that Iowa Northern Train is almost an all-time high unit consist that's got to be half the fleet. The NS power was decent and the rear blue buffer car used to have the name of the firm that was leasing it in the dark blue square and also had a picture of macaroni. Speaking of ethanol here's an older 1 minute 🎥 TANK TRAIN DERAILS AND ROLLS OVER. It's unique. Also for you and your dad this guy has brought out some old video tapes of the CNW near Nelson IL @ northernrailfan

Yes Paul B, the dogs have a free ride for sure! Montour is there home away from home. I notice when the Iowa Northern runs slugs there is always an F40 locomotive. Apparently these units have a higher amp output than the GP38s. I'll have to check out that CNW footage by Nelson👍

Thanks David! The bell is an extra measure of safety for people near the tracks. They seem to use it more at slower speeds.

Hmmmmmmm, that IANR seemed like it was going faster than 35 mph, maybe the dispatcher wanted it out of the way of the tank train? And for some strange reason, those NS GE units like to pretend theyre steam locomotives...........👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸😀😀!
