Just lovely! A beautiful early example that looks fabulous with a huge amount of attention to detail everywhere. You must be very proud of your accomplishments.

Great job on the Lotus Elan restoration and on the video production. I have watched all of the videos and have found them to be very informative. Thank you!

Paul, congratulations on getting it finished. Very difficult to be sure but those bonnet springs seem to be of a heavier gauge to mine. My bonnet would certainly never have stayed up that high. The springs would lift it about 12" from the closed position but then I dont think I extended them down to the chassis as you have, I think mine went to the lowest hole on the bonnet skid plate stay. I always wanted to cover the hood rails in black heat shrink as I couldn't get a good finish on them ..... but never did it!

As a precaution I'd keep some small screws in case the trim pops out. You don't want to get to Combe and then this happens. I don't have an issue with screws but then original fitment for my Elan. But Lotus did it this way for a good reason.

Hi Jim, Sorry if I was mean about the screws holding the trim in. I think the earlier cars didn't have screws holding it and the later ones do. I definitely appreciate originality, particularly with the beautiful examples you have.

@@PaulH_S2_Elan When I next see you I'll tell you a funny story about the trim I fitted to a Sprint I owned in the 70s. Yours looks great without the screws and I hope it all stays in place for you as a better result aesthetically. You've put a great series of videos out there which future restorers and enthusiasts will benefit from and enjoy.

Hi Paul, Fantastic job. Have you had the car out in the rain and how waterproof are the doors? Did you take any special measures to ensure them being weather proof. I've never managed to make mine even remotely watertight.

Hi Peter, Thank you. It got slightly drizzled on and I whizzed it back in the garage to dry it off because I don't have the hood sorted yet. It doesn't have any extra seals on the doors and judging by the way they work I can see that it will leak like a sieve. It's interesting comparing the S1 & S2 with the S3 & S4. The changes made on the later cars all make good sense, like door seals that have a chance of working.

@@PaulH_S2_Elan I remember a talk by Ron whatsisname about the Elan design. His comment on the early door design was " It wasn't our finest hour". Be prepared, or don't go out in the rain, or leave the little beauty outside in the rain.
