Suspension update: Before we filmed this we asked if there was a difference in hardware between the Sport and Touring trims. We were told there was not; it was just alignment and tires, which is why we said as such. We have found out that information was incorrect. The springs on sport are stiffer (than Touring) and the shocks have more compression, along with the alignment and tire choice.

This is what Lotus told you? Probably the same person that gave out so many incorrect facts to reviewers about the Evora as well. With how important this car is to Lotus, a car that they have to get the release right, you would think their press car point of contact would have a clue. Lotus, fire them. I'll do the job. Let's see what kind of shape the Emira press cars are in at the end of the cycle, will they have dead AC, out of adjustment parking brakes, bad alignments like the Evoras? They need to have someone scrutanize these cars before and after press uses them. I am a huge fan of Lotus cars, I love my Evora, but the company has to get their head out of their ass and take care of some of these low hanging fruit to improve brand image.

I disagree with you on the Cayman being flawless and you hit on the main issue of it in your review.... 4 wheels strut based suspension VS double wishbone all around. I have the 718 GT4 and the Cayman platform moves around too much as the suspension articulates. Not sure about the GTS, but the PASM damping curves are horrible stock on the GT4. It is under damped on the rebound stroke and pogo stick like on compression. I moved to MCS 2-way dampers because the stock PASM was so un-nerving on certain road conditions at pace. The reason that the fixed dampers work well on the Emira are two fold.... They actually have good damping curves AND having double wishbones keeps toe changes to a minimum.
@noncog1 Жыл бұрын
There's a small chance I built your dampers! MCS was definitely big on upping rebound
@z06van21 Жыл бұрын
@@noncog1 Very cool. They have helped a lot in taming the GT4 when the roads get crappy, especially on bumps that raise the rear-end almost to its stops with the stock PASM. I have played with different settings for over a year now and settled on 175 canister pressure all around and 9/9 on both compression and rebound F & R, while running 80/100 Swift springs. I have found that running the same compression setting as rebound is the most cohesive from a vertical plane POV, since your base curves are a 1:1 ratio for compression & rebound. When I deviate from that, the vertical plane seems to get out of sync a little and not as cohesive. This is for street use BTW, I am sure there would be benefits on track to change things up, but for CA streets, I have found these settings to be as good as it gets.

It would have been nice to hear your opinion on that, as I believe Lotus is still hydraulic and both the Porsche & C8 are electric. Objectively, only reason anyone would want this over a C8 Z51 is for the hydraulic steering and manual transmission. In all other metrics C8 Z51 has it beat. From ease of dealer network, to maintenance/repair ability ease & cost, to overall features, daily drivability use, and overall performance. Ditto, for mostly the Porsche Cayman. It would have edge over Lotus in all but hydraulic steering criteria. Looks are all subjective criteria. So that varies buyer to buyer. If this car was $20k cheaper or so. It would make a more compelling argument for itself. As of now in this category the C8 Z51 is still by far the best bang for the buck. If C8 had a manual and a proper hydraulic rack beaming with ol fashion proper feedback/feel. The reason to buy Lotus would be obsolete. Unless you were trying to be different or stuck on looks.

Your right the C8 Z51 is a much better car with 100 more HP and you can get a hard top convertible. No comparison for me Corvette rules.

Like the new format, my only thought is give yourself room to be yourself even if you're delivering a script. Content's good but we lose a bit of Matt and Zack and that's really who we're here for. Keep it up!

According to Harrys factory tour there is in fact two different spring rate options. Unless that has gone away?

Harry’s Garage definitely said the shocks are different for the Sport vs Touring suspension. Who is correct?

The Emira is a beautiful car however, the price has risen from $94K to $106K. That is the same price as a C8 ZO6. I think the hand built flat plane crank will be more compelling to consumers in the U.S. However, in Europe the Emira due to parts and service availability might be the better choice.

I had my name down on one when it was initially announced but the difference in price made me second guess it but I must admit it’s still something I’d strongly consider
