Lotus Evora S - Minor Mods and more water leaks!

A couple of things that really bother me about the Evora are the lack of engine noise and the terrible gear knob. I try to address both here.. with a K&N filter for more noise and a milled gear knob.. as well as trying to deal with the continuing water leaks!

I remember from watching Doug Demuro on the Evora, that the powerfold mirrors just needs the switch to activate them (from the Ford Focus). Something you might want to add if it isn't installed already. Really enjoying the content!

Had a Larini system on mine and it was a screamer! Sounded like an exotic car. Loved it.

You won't notice the difference in tone with the K&N unless you wind the passenger window down

Ryan Mccormick yep.. and it’s not tyAt bad right now. Should have seen it when I got back from Edinburgh.. just holding the mat without squeezing and water was pouring out!

I've had the same wet mats issue on my Evora, sure Phil at B&C will sort you out. Mine occasionally still leaks a bit around the window seals if I leave it out in really heavy rain, but as it's normally kept inside I haven't been too worried. Will get the to look at the next service though. Has your car had the third cat removed? Mine is a MY12 and sounds much better than the earlier cars.

Ive heard conflicting views on whether it has one or not.. thew chap from 2bular seemed to think not.. but I don't know. I need to take the underway off and check but for sure that would be a relatively cheap option to increase noise!!

I hope you get the teething issues resolved, annoying when you get a new car, yet very Lotus! Interested to hear your impressions in comparison to the last blue Lotus toy you owned. They are not as far away in price as they once were. It might make a good comparison video?

Absolutely, but you happily own a 964 where as an early 991 would be more dynamically competent?

Yes...but the gulf between an Early Esprit and an Evora really is massive.. not so great between 964 and 991.. but in any case it is a good suggestion and one I will definitely follow up on!

Would be nice to see lid on air filter houseing, look at air filter lid on 911 993 ,induction hole with chrome lip on induction hole is called the motor sound option one without is normal one they did. Slightly different silencer, but they created induction roar under throttle by drilling about 25 to 30 5 MM holes in cover, crazy and it works great bought it from Porsche at time, 100 something dollars I think, when I could have drilled mine in 10 mins. Then you won't need to change exhaust, if it's just induction roar you want. Amazing K&N still around, when in USA in the 2000 then ran a 308qv on dyno at the time with and without K&N flat panel filter it dropped 2bhp took mine straight out of my QV test you don't see in mags, they would add rev

Like the fact you have the balls to dig in deep. Even if it’s a learning experience abs not what you want to hear, . Always wonder why Lotus couldn’t make the hole below engine abit bigger to be able to drop engine for clutch without removing the rear clam

I'm not convinced about the Evora. It is a special car, no doubt. But i'm not getting that special feel. I had a golf mk5 GTI. Good solid car. But i never had that special feel. You know when you have that special car, when you sell it...

The real reason you make these minor modifications is you enjoy pissing about with your car, it's as simple as that. All the stuff about character and sound is you trying to convince yourself you're doing something constructive.

Some truth to that but really it is also because it makes a difference.. my ever was badly in need of more noise!

More noise⁉️ Do a Mr Toad and go " Vroom, vroom " as you're driving along. Being a bit onomatopoetic never hurt anybody. 🤫🤫🤫
