I bought this pattern a while ago and finally had the opportunity to look at it. I am a pretty good crotcheter, but your pattern was written oddly. So, I decided I would put it down and try again another day. While looking for some video instruction, I cam across this video!! I am going to try it again. I didn't realize I needed a #2 weight and cotton. What a find, I thought I would never make it, and with this video, I can finally understand your written pattern. Thank you.....

I can’t use a number 3 or 4 yarn using hook size 5? It should work, right?
@fluitjesfluitjes10 күн бұрын
So I tried different yarns and different hook sizes, but nothing worked. So I bought the exact hook you are using in the tutorial, Susan Bates 5,5mm. The difference!!! I could not get my round 3 to gauge with the 6mm hook I had. But 5,5mm Susan Bates wonder hook? I'm hooked, it's like magic. The structure of what I'm making is also much better than with any other hook/yarn combination I've tried so far. This was totally worth the €20 I spend on a packet of crochet hook sizes I already had :P

OMG!!!!! I was wanting to make a mandela vest for a very dear friend of mine, I came across your Lotus vest, then your lotus duster 2.0 and then your Lotus Hooded Vest! I am absolutely MADLY in love with all three of them! (Also the elf coat) But I'm stuck on which one, between the Duster 2.0 and the Lotus hooded vest, it is that I should make! I love them both and I couldn't decide which one my friend would love more, so I thought maybe I could make one with the hood and with sleeves. I got all the way up to row 16 (which actually isn't that far at all -facepalm-, and started getting nervous about how I was going to accomplish such an undertaking of going "off pattern" and sorta trying to make up my own to make it work (I've never made my own pattern, I've been way too scared too heh), then I just so happened to /conveniently/ notice my count was off and then figured that would be my excuse to shelf it. It's almost been a year since I worked on it, thanksgiving, christmas and new years holidays have all come and went for chances to give it to her as a present, and now her birthday is coming up and I've decided I need to get my ass in gear AND THEN I FIND IN MY TIME OF ABSENCE YOU'VE POSTED VIDEOS ON KZbin!!! *angels singing hallelujah* Oh you don't know how much it means to me to hear the instructions coming from YOU the person who wrote them!! @@oliviapower6503 That's great! The mandala should be around 15-16" across in diameter when you get to Round 20, just before the armholes :) If the sleeve hole placement is off due to gauge change, it's not too difficult to just space them further apart. The main thing to keep an eye on is where your middle point (between the armholes at the collar area) is, and how much is half of the garment once you start to do the half-rounds just before finishing the main body. Most of that is covered in the video but the FAQ page linked below also goes over some size modification math which you might need so I recommend looking into that if you haven't yet! Hi Mary, I'm so glad you like this design! The radius describes the measurement of a circle from it's center to it's outer edge. Diameter is twice the radius. Since this garment is circular, radius and diameter can measure both width and length for this piece. :)

Hi Maria! The yarn I'm using in the video is quite fine, but you can make this pattern with up to a #3 DK weight yarn, so yes a 4 ply UK size would work great :) The yardage necessary is listed in the written blog post for this pattern which is linked in the description below. In this video I'm freehanding the size, making somewhere between a Small and a Large, which are the only two sizes available as a written pattern. :) Please let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi there thanks for the reply, I eventually found it on the blog.. I think it said 6 100g skeins for the larger size.. but 300g for the one in the tutorial which is a lot more.. and the written instructions look like hieroglyphics lol.. I’m still not very good at pattern reading for crochet.. I was gifted a voucher for my birthday and I don’t want to waste the yarn if I get into an awful muddle trying to make the bigger one.. the pattern says it’s 42 which will be perfect but the small isn’t going to fit.. but double yarn seemed a lot more to size up.. or is that correct please 🥰

@@mariamanchester4005 Yes, the written pattern is pretty complex looking, I know :) The video tutorial is meant as a supplement to the written pattern because there are some pretty tricky spots in the beginning, but the video does rely on some knowledge of reading the written pattern. The yardage for a large is 1900 yards and that should be enough - I'll say the most complex parts of this pattern occur in the first 12 rounds lol after that the pattern gets easier to read :)

TYSM for sharing this incredible pattern with us all xx I do have a question tho....My 'girls' are plus-sized. I always need to go up 1 or 2 sizes bc of my boobs - lol! Anyways, by using a larger hook, would this give me a larger size? I would presume so but I would like to ask you - the designer - if this would work with your pattern. On your website, it only goes to size Large & uses a 5.5mm hook. I believe that I would need a 2X. I will try a 7mm hook (my fav hook btw) & see what happens xx
@MoraleFiber4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lavender! Yes, using a bigger size hook will result in a larger garment, but it can cause a lot of problems too, if you aren't targeting for an exact gauge and doing the math. For instance, you will get a larger bust size using a 7.00 mm hook, but you will also get a much longer sweater - possibly to the floor even, depending on your height. I encourage you to give it a shot, but just wanted to let you know what you might encounter. There is a list of possible modifications to make to this pattern included in the FAQ page for this design on my blog, including some general instructions on how to make the piece bigger in the bust without making it longer: moralefiber.blog/2019/10/22/lotus-mandala-duster-faq/ In the later videos, I do go over the strategy for working extra back and forth rounds in the top half only, which is a modification trick designed for people with larger busts :) Thanks so much and I hope that helps!
@lavenderrainbow50414 жыл бұрын
@@MoraleFiber Tysm for replying xx I did read your blog that you referred me to a while ago & it just slipped my mind. I think I will try both. I will use a 6mm instead of a 7mm (as I had mentioned). I will repeat rows 13 as per your blog suggestions & maybe 17 as well :) I also had never thought of the length aspect of it - how silly of me. A longer duster will not work for me - I am 5'6" on a good day, lol! I will also pay special attention to the part that you instruct us how to do extra back & forth rounds on the top half. I will take a look but if you didn't mention it anywhere - how long is the duster from the neck down?
@MoraleFiber4 жыл бұрын
@@lavenderrainbow5041 I don't think I did mention the length total, here's what I've got : I'm 5'6" and the small size duster hits the back of my legs just at or maybe below the knee, on a hanger that is about 45" from collar to bottom point but it's a little shorter when it's stretched over the body. :)
