The 3 gen has coating on the cup and rim the 2 gen has coating just in the cup. Thats why the 2 gen grips. I also think the turbowood is good at low volume and high volume without getting the airy sound you talk about. (Good for recording)

Charley from LOTUS here, belatedly….the cloudy inner cup on the later Gen2 models is a matte finish, otherwise known as light sandblasting. Early Gen3 also features this on the outer shank and on the rim.

Have you tried the Lotus 3XL2? I started on 3XL and loved it, But then tried 3L to see if liked the brighter, or more standard 3c type of tone, but ultimately landed on the XL2 which I think splits the difference nicely. Still dark and warm, but can light up nicely. Great all around MP. My current favorite. Lotus MPs are so great, IMO.

Garot, the scratch finish you talk about, as an ex Stainless Steel worker!, is called a Satin Finish. I’m also an old cornet player. Play on a Curry 3BBC😁

Have you ever tried Brand mouth pieces? Made of plastic, allows to add features that cannot be done in metal. They have a thing called turbo flow, kind of a feature in the shaft that gives the air a spin. An interesting approach.

I have a few kelly mouthpieces and they are Lexan, so perhaps a similar product?

I used to use a Brand mouthpiece for outdoor gigs in Winter. That was before we (LOTUS) came out with our TurboWood line.

Thanks, need to try out a lotus! Do you have high compression or non hc? The harrelson spectra blue mp is like what you are saying but I was surprised in how it was huge cup but also able to get a lot of what you describe on the bronze.

These are all non-HC models.... just the regular but in a few different cups/rims/metals.... They are all really nice, I think the 3L is the "go to" at this point but I like to play with them all
