Adam Mizner & Damo Mitchell chatting about Taijiquan, Japanese culture, Karate, Qi development and a bunch of other stuff whilst they are in Tokyo.
Of particular interest is the distinction between three forms of 'internal force' within these arts - body level practice, mind level skills and Qi development. One is the key method and the others become close methods that are not quite the true thing.

Thank you so very much for discussing the internal aspects of iaido. After many years of practicing iaido, only in the last couple of years I´ve been getting to realize what it is really about. And it was thanks to come in touch with the Chinese internal arts. As my Sensei taught me recently iaido is 剣禅 kenzen (very close to what the okinawan karate Sensei you mentioned said).

I was pleasantly surprised to hear Adam's thoughts on Consciousness and Qi being all that is 'Real'. I've recently been listening to numerous Daniel Schmachtenberger and Bernardo Kastrup (to name just two) conversations on Consciousness and Idealism. Fascinating theories that support and encourage the revolutionary (and deeply refreshing) intersection of science and spirituality. Highly recommend them to anyone interested in some cognitive stimulation. Enjoyed this chat as I lived in Kyoto for 8 years many moons ago. Would have enjoyed it anyway, but the Japan talk was a nice bonus. Thanks folks! :)

Damo and Adam are the all star casts podcast. Now that you're both in Japan you need to give a breakdown of Daito Ryu, said by some to be the greatest koryu of Japan, compared to taichi. Is there any differences between them in your professional opinion?

To either one, or both of you, I need a book specific to meditation. If you guys want to get together and do that, I'd be grateful. Damo, I already have all your books that are currently in print. They're great, but I think a bit too "busy" with details of other practices. That's not a negative critique. But meditation needs a stand alone book with even more detail of that practice in isolation. I hope that makes sense.

When Adam said qi and consciousness is eternal, and mind and body are not, does this mean that after reincarnating the accumulated qi can be maintained? Consciousness seems unchanging but qi comes and goes so how is it eternal and unchanging or lasting?
@milehigh61
@milehigh61 5 ай бұрын
Maybe rather than accumulating qi, one reconnects with the eternal 🤔 Just a thought…

Wonderful talk! Adam mentioned that only consciousness and energy are real, because they both transcend death. Consciousness I can understand theoretically. But what about energy? How is energy related to the death/rebirth process? It would be wonderful if you did a more public talk on the cultivators view about that. Thanks anyway!

does the condition of fully absorbing into doing something that one forgets time and the surrounding have any overlapping with the highly stabilized concentration that exists in meditation?
@tivtag
@tivtag 5 ай бұрын
Imho it is close, but usually losing awareness is an error. For example a PC gamer might be fully absorbed into their game character, forgetting their body and even mind. It is close but has a dangerous error :)

Why would the Cultivation of Qi substance affect the next life? Thanks 🙏
@klemensheuchert1589

Mhm, from my experience qi is stuck in the body from the past, maybe from childhood or parents, development is not possible. I believe if we cultivate qi it can definitely help develop the body. The health, jing, qi and shen also goes to the next generation from my belief. And from reading a lot there can be qi stuck in you from ancestors like WWII or such. Also adding qi gets influenced by daily life. Thomas Hübl or Nathan Brine have also perspectives on Qi where I read this. Thanks Damo and Adam for your perspectives.
@tivtag

@@klemensheuchert1589thanks for your response. Seeing just the physical plane I can see that we give our QI and DNA from parent to child. Not sure about QI and rebirth, since that is past my personal experience :-)
