Every once in a while, there's a contemporary song on the radio that leans hard into a throw-back sound & it ends up bridging generation gaps for the minutes it's playing lol. This song is an awesome late '90's bop in it's own right but the old big-band jazz thrown in is such a treat too! I've known war-era seniors who love it when it comes on the radio as much as myself, as a 90's-baby, does lol.

This song was originally done in 1952 by the Cuban-Mexican bandleader Perez Prado. Known as the 'King of the Mambo,' Prado recorded numerous mambos and when he ran out of inspiration, he would simply number them, and "Mambo No 5" was one of a series of 8. I'm from Germany and remember that this song was *everywhere* in the summer of 1999. It was so special and catchy, it could only become a world hit. The downside is that he never had such a big hit again. I suppose that "Mambo No. 5" has secured him financially, but I can imagine that from a creative point of view it is tiring to be always referred to this one success.

As a 7th grader in 1999, the song was really popular on ICRT, and it fascinated me a lot due to its uniqueness in the beginning and the chorus, and after I went to senior high school, I found Lou Bega in the MV pretty cool for the rhythm, the content and the song he sang. For now, his song can still brighten my mood. Hehe....Sometimes, I think it pretty great to have Jessica, Rita, Mary, Jessica, Sandra and the equivalent beauties by my side like Lou Bega in the MV. Hehe....
