Tyne Daly looks so different here - this is only 2 years before Cagney & Lacey.

Ironic that 'Lou Grant' was seen as anti racism, anti this, anti that & yet there were sexist remarks. In this episode the one about Menopause. Re Depression - considering the state of the World it's a wonder we are not all chronically depressed. Like Death no one wants to talk about it.

Not fond of Charlie Hume's anger I've seen in some recent episodes...hope it's not going to continue till the end. I like him better when he's happy!

Same. I find him quite sexy when he’s happy.

Any doctor who would discuss a patient's condition with a third party should be kicked out and not allowed to return. HIPPA or no, that's just common, crass, and morally irresponsible.

April 13th, 1981. 9:00 Find me someone to fill that job. If I didn't know Ms. Pynchon better I'd say that was an intentional set up to shoot Charlie down. In reality an artificial plot device. Aside from that didn't like the depression theme. That guy's acting was way too forced.

I dunno ...people used to take their own depression far more personally....like affirmation that they were dirt , so anger was pretty common among men especially .

Speaking as someone who deals with major depression, it presents itself in many and varied ways. Some direct their anger and frustration at others, particularly those close to them or whom they consider friends; others tend to take it out on themselves. (During my depressive episodes, I fall into the latter category.) Still others are equal opportunity in how depression presents itself. However, in the case of George Driscoll, it must be remembered that the symptoms are depicted in a composite and time-compressed manner for purposes of television. Nonetheless, in no way does it detract from the seriousness of the disorder.
