I love how in the 70s they still hired normal average looking people on sitcoms. Of course, that was before the snowflake era, where you don’t dare to hire normal people because you don’t dare ever crack a personal joke about people lest you “offend” them. Therefore they don’t hire people whose appearance is “off the grid” so to speak, because what’s the point if you can’t ever say anything about it? Just hire all beautiful people and pretend the world is made up of such. Or pretend that “everyone is beautiful”, appearance-wise, when it’s just objectively not true. Of course by the time the current cookie-cutter cosmetic surgery craze is done, everyone will look the same anyway.

Interesting that so many of the semi-regulars on this show had first appeared on the Mary Tyler Moore show (as different characters, of course) ...Myrna, Susie/Susie's husband, Lenny, Joe's friend Charlie, Brenda's boyfriend Nick.

Always loved Ida, she was a hoot. Rhoda and Joe married so quick. I never liked Joe, he always seemed so odd. I always liked Brenda, she was hilarious. I watched every ep new as a teenager. Rhoda danced with Homer Bedlow!

Maybe I am in the minority but I never liked Joe and especially in this episode. I don't think they had particularly good chemistry.

Its so great to see life before the internet! The phone rings, people went out, families stuck together, you could afford a nice flat without having a high flying career..

In that era "moving in" with a guy was kept on the quiet from parents. I knew one couple who told their parents, who stopped talking to them. When the couple later married they didn't tell either set of parents.

Rhoda should have waited at least five minutes after stepping across Joe's apartment threshhold, before mentioning marriage. She never even got a proposal from Joe. He told her that he wasn't sure he wanted to get married again, after being divorced. She did not listen to him. She was too frightened of losing him, to give living together a chance, for more than 45 seconds. Unfair.

Rhoda got a lot of mileage out of that brown and white argyle sweater in this episode. I had one very similar to that, back in the day, in red and beige. I guess Rhoda influenced me.

I love Martin Morgenstern. He was a great dad to Rhoda and Brenda. Harold Gould, who played Martin, was wonderful. He had a real twinkle in his eye.

Show went down hill after the writers ridiculously split them up. But honestly he didn't even propose correctly. Should have been romantic. A gorgeous funny woman like Rhoda deserved way better than asking him and him seemingly settling. And they should have lasted.
