I recently digitized shows from late 1990. In three succeeding nights, the musical guests were Basia, k.d. lang, and Lou Reed. All backed by the WMDB (and some of the act's own players). I, too, went "Wow."

Yes. Now we're talking. So sad that Bowie and Lou had to leave us so soon. I remember almost every appearance. Great to see these again. Awesome Don. Stand out songs for me are 'New Sensations', 'Dirty Blvd', 'Sweet Jane' 'Sunday Morning' and 'Jesus'. He never sounded better but I seem to remember Lou playing 'I Love You Suzanne' from the 'New sensations' album and also performing the song 'Work' with John Cale. Am I wrong about that?
@rogerkeime2862 Жыл бұрын
im not 100% positive but only Warren Zevon had more appearances, and of course Warren filled in for Dave during illnesses, surgeries, bail hears etc. lol dave did try to drive his italian sportscar at Autobahn speeds. .

Don, not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but I remember a few shows after Lou was on doing "Sunday Morning", there was a segment, maybe a CBS Mailbag, maybe an audience Q&A, can't remember for sure, but it inquired about what Dave does during the musical performances, & it showed a clip of Lou's performance, with the guy doing tai chi, and then the camera pans over to Dave, and he is also doing tai chi...unless I dreamed that. In which case, I'll be honest, it was a pretty funny dream, & the bit would've killed. Please let me know if you can recall this as well.

What Johnny Carson did for comedians by having them appear on The Tonight Show,especially if they were out of the spotlight for a while,Letterman did for musical acts! He gave multiple generations of viewers a chance to hear and watch them again or for the first time and make new fans of those viewers!

@marcofalzone6469 Yeah, great song of worship that is great to hear this Christmas season (12-2023). I was a little surprised to hear Dave ask Lou: Did you write this? - as it’s one of the highlights on the third Velvet Underground album; but then again, maybe Dave was just trying to give Lou credit for writing such a spiritual song. Also, maybe check out Guardian Angel; a beautiful song on The Raven album. I just discovered recently this collection of performances. I always knew Dave loved Warren Zevon through his many appearances on late night, and I’m now doubly impressed with Dave’s musical taste!
