Lou Woo - Beginning Bobbin Lacemaking: How To Work A Cloth Stitch In Bobbin Lace

Lou Woo takes you through your first steps in bobbin lacemaking with a cloth stitch.
The first stage is setting up your pins and hanging pairs on to make your stitches, from there you will be told the different name that the stitch is given, the anatomy of the stitch and shown in slow, clear instructions how the stitch is made. Along with handy hints and tips this tutorial will ensure that your bobbin lace is perfect.
Following on from learning the stitch, Lou shows you common errors that can arise in cloth stitch, what causes them and what they look like, it is advisable to try these errors yourself so you have a record of what they look like.
You will then be shown how to extend the cloth stitch into a cloth stitch and twist which will change the appearance of the cloth stitch, just from one simple twist.
Finally you will be shown how to tie a reef knot and finish your lace sample.

Excellent tutorial! I've always thought the process of making lace by hand was fascinating, but it always seemed too intimidating to get started. But you explain every step in the cloth stitch so well and make lace making seem far more approachable than I initially thought. Thanks for sharing!

This was an excellent tutorial! Thank you very much. I finally bought some bobbins second hand as I have wanted to do this for years. I am making do with the cushion on the back of my laptop board for now, until I work out what sort of pillow is best and where to get one in Australia. 😊
