Very enjoyable video. This sounds a lot like my story. I bought my 68 SSRS 396 Camaro in 1980 for 1700.00. I raced the old car on & off the drag strip for most of my younger years & had a ball with it. 42 years later, I still own it & it's always pretty much been my favorite car.

That's one loaded Camaro! I didn't realize that the 1967 had the hideaway headlights. As I have mentioned before, the 1967 debut year is the only year that had the front vent windows, and also is the lightest year they were made, just like it's cousin the Pontiac Firebird the same year. This is a beautiful example of the Camaro. I love the Munsey 4 speed transmission with the matching gearshift.

@@JeffKing310 I owned a R.S.-S.S. 396 4 speed myself. 67's worked by electric switches that were troublesome so in 68 and 69 they were vacuum operated. If they did not work all one had to do is grab it and slide it over. Mine had the trunk fin and it was yellow with a black vinle top.

I love the history of the car when the owner has had the car for a long time and this car has a fantastic history with it's care taker!!! This one being and RS/SS checks all the boxes for sure. Those Camaros looked so cool with the hideaway headlights and I wish that feature could be used in automotive styling today. The view from the interior looking out over the hood is really special with the slight "power bulge" and grill inserts in the hood and that blue is simply beautiful on this car. Very cool Camaro!!!

Not until he sells it. Until then, it's costing him money to have restored it and kept it along with the insurance and tag fees. Unless he sells it, it's been nothing but an expense. Investments in the market pay dividends. Had he placed 800 in a broad index fund when he was 21 instead of buying this car and reinvested the dividends, he'd be money ahead, whereas he'll never recoup the total he put into the car in maintenance and fees if he sells it now.

Sounds awesome as Gary runs Blythely through the gears! Besides the vent windows and lack of side markers, the '67 Camaro nameplate is in block letters whereas that of the '68 is script. This car is an original survivor. In the late 1970s gasoline was often in short supply causing many owners of similar cars to sell them in favor of newer ones with more fuel efficiency (and unfortunately less performance). Similar cars from Ford or Chrysler were often sold for a fraction of their original cost. What makes this car unique is the number of one year only items and the RS/SS combination of packages.

Super nice car, you mentioned two 396's available, there were three, although it is not listed in the owners manual, the L-78 375 HP engine was available from about mid year on. I had a RS/SS 350 w/ Powerglide in the rare Tahoe Turquoise w/ white nose stripe. I have never seen another one just like it. The bad thing about the electric motors for the headlight doors was the pot metal gears in the mechanism, if for some reason you pushed the doors open it would strip the gears.

Very informative video. I was interested to see if chevrolet added multileaf because of it being a big block or if it was changed out at some time. I like seeing these old cars i grew up still being preserved and shared and actually driven.

HI - Chevrolet went to multi-leaf rear springs for the 1968 model year - to correct the problem.

NICE Gary, i had 2 67 RS back in the 70's i am pretty sure the 67 discs were the 4 piston calipers like the Corvette. The 2nd one i owned had the 4 piston calipers and like the Corvette they leaked so i replaced with later model Nova single piston. My 2nd one i bought the body only and it had a 12 bolt the 456 gears and i found a 427/425 so it was a Yenko clone, with a 4 speed the more fun i ever had in a car. Mine had the lakewood competition bars with the J hooks that went over the axle. Gary did the 67 have that option to spray liquid traction on the rear tires?

@@loucostabile A car like that being original now is worth a fortune. I was 20 years old then Lou, just turned 66 this month. I had the 2nd one during the 1975 gas shortage, fortunately i worked at a Shell station as a gas pumper then so ME getting gas was easy but for customers tough with the odd and even plates, etc. 11 to 1 compression quickly became too high in those days, those old cars were rust buckets so thank GOD for CA climate.

Happy Holidays Lou! Beautiful example of the first year Camaro. Very nice options including the color. I used to say that the '69 was the best, but this car has changed my mind. Interesting with the rear Chevrolet emblem. I never realized that. Back in 1978 people were getting decent used cars for $400 or so, so $800 was more than it sounds like today. I remember at that time when my brothers were getting their first cars, $500 was max! Times have changed for sure.

I have a matching numbers 1967 Marina Blue RS SS. Only difference is mine has the deluxe interior. Mine was built on the 5th week of May in Norwood and has the round radius rod. ??? It says they were introduced in early Feb.. ??? Factory leftover?? I know a lot of weird things happened on the assembly line.
