I live on Southern California and they won't sell me the Akrapovic sportcat for my M240i because of emissions regs in this goofy state, so I went with the Fabspeed muffler delete exhaust instead.

In california if the car is new you don’t have to smog it for the first 6 years, but there’s definitely ways around it.

I've got this car in the UK, I've not straight piped it coz no cat is illegal the UK, we have to have a road/tax/emission worthy test annually, so not worth taking off a cat back system once a year to put on a cat exhaust.. plus where would I keep the cat exhaust all year? My factory fitted M performance exhaust sounds very similar to yours at start up, even at Santa Pod when I started it up after day watching cars up the strip, a bloke working under a hot rod drag car got up to see what made the noise.... The M235i noise is is also good when you're in 1st or 2nd gear in traffic slowly creeping after warming up, just a little slow move in traffic and it's bub bub pop pop, multi story car parks are just as good as tunnels and you're driving slowly...

Besides the sound & rumble, do you feel the straight pipe back from the Downpipe added much HP over the stock sport exhaust? Big difference or maybe a few HP and killer sound?

What year 335i? The highest horsepower I've seen out of a m235i or the n55 motor in general is 680 whp. - Greg

Go for a 335IS if you want more power, the newer 335i's aren't as quick and dont look as good as the older gens imo. You could find a 2013 with low milage. An m235i is a decent car too though

Racing Fuel Mod I have a 2011 e90 335i and I regretted not getting the n54 at first, but it’s honestly a perfect mix of sound, reliability, and it still has above average capability for performance.

335 is too big and heavy for cornering. for better driving experience go with 235. 335 if you jave to use back seats.

The m235i from the factory has the burbles but my car also has the Dinan stg 2 tune on it as well. But yes the car is fully straight piped so there's no restrictions which makes the pops sound more exaggerated. - Greg

the transmission should be able to hold that amount of power no issue. i haven’t had any issue with this car or my previous n55 car that was fbo as well.

Yes you will get a check engine but that's why you need to tune the vehicle so that you dont have a check engine light

The exhaust note doesn't change when putting it in different modes since there is no exhaust valve. However it won't burble as much in comfort compared to the other modes.
