Both bands are from Sweden and Hammerfall has the whole hammer theme going on, but they're christians and often talk about Jesus, the Crusades and such, while Amon Amarth talks about the hammer as a symbol of Thor. What surprises me is that Hammerfall was seen as "much bigger" back in '99, whilst today Amon Amarth is definitely selling more tickets worldwide.

All interesting stuff, but I'm most compelled by the issue of the Cannibal Corpse logo. I'm no lawyer, but have a slight understanding of trademarks and copyright. The band chose wisely to design a new logo. Had they continued to use it, Barnes would likely have had a good case to sue. They would have likely settled, but he would have been compensated. Any creative work that someone produces falls under copyright law. One does not have to legally file anything with the courts to own that copyright (but it can help in legal matters). All he has to do is establish that he designed it (here we see band members admitting he created it). He already owns the copyright. Now, had the band as a whole originally commissioned Barnes to design it by agreeing to a contract and compensating him in the first place, then the copyright would belong to the band as a business entity. That's my understanding of it, but again I'm no lawyer. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

As someone who's written a few Wikipedia articles, I can tell you when Wikipedia is operating as it should, most of these mistakes actually come from bad journalism. I had an experience where it was widely reported that a particular band was from Brooklyn, but after contacting the band themselves, they told me that wasn't true. Thing is, Wikipedia should only be a mirror for information that's already a matter of public record and not include 'new' information that is unsourced. This creates a problem - if all the sources are false, then ostensibly you can expect the Wikipedia article to contain false information until something reported in public corrects it and it makes its way through to Wikipedia. However, when Wikipedia is not operating as it should, it's just people making shit up. And, well, we wouldn't have this brilliant series of videos without a decent level of Wikipedia jank....

One of the many reasons I have always respected Nergal is how he handles the NS BS. Yes, you can use that, fuck trademarks. He will even still be cordial with Darken, which some jeer, but what they don't get is that Nergal has always been and will always be the bigger man. Mind you, he did this back in the 90's, when it didn't impress people to turn your back on that scene and in fact was quite the opposite. But he also doesn't cower like a meager weak sheep just because of who he rubbed elbows with. That is a standard I wish more had. Actions speak louder than words and a lot of people were pissed at Nergal for it, just like people are pissed he had any association with any of it. Good, fuck them all. And on another note!! Paul from CC is a douche. It is not "ridiculous" for someone to be compensated for their art. What a moronic thing to say. How he talks about "booting" him shows how childish he is about it, that wasn't a casual it didn't work out, those words were intentional. Fact is SFU's Haunted will always destroy everything CC did after Barnes left, and now that Owens is in the band, whose the real Cannibal Corpse now?
