I saw this guy at Ozfest in like 2002 maybe. Never heard of him. He is playing an absolutely screaming solo and throws the guitar down. The strings are just ringing out with deafening feedback. He pulls out a six pack of budweiser and slams a beer. He tosses one or two out into the crowd. He slams another. He tosses another one or two out. Guitar is still laying there just screaming. He picks it up and keeps soloing. The most goddamn rock and roll thing i have ever witnessed.

Your ear is your best teacher. Play, play, play, play, and play until it sounds good to your ear. I'll never forget when I got my first electric guitar back in 83 and I was trying to make any semblance of good sound coming out of it and getting nowhere. In frustration, I hit the strings hard and accidently hit an A power chord. It sounded powerful and amazing. Hitting that chord was the start of it all and my ear taught me so many chords that I didn't know the name of until many years later. 38 years later, I am still learning something almost daily. The guitar never stops giving once you start playing it.

I’ve always loved Zakk’s playing. I remember when Ozzy introduced him on Headbangers Ball as his new guitar player. Then when the album came out, I knew he was a tasty player. I never understood all the hate that flies Zakk’s way about “he just plays pentatonics” or “too many pinch harmonics”. What he said about taking away what everyone else was doing and what he was left with and become proficient at it makes total sense. His pentatonic runs are so clean and lighting fast chicken pickin’, you know who’s playing right off the bat. Killer player!

Love the way he explains how to acquire your own sound: "If you dont wanna sound like Yngwie, get rid of harmonic minor and sweep picking. If you dont want to be compared to Van Halen, dont have stripes on your guitar and dont do tapping. If you dont want to be compared to ANY guitarists, you dont need any string actually, just lose the guitar" And this, kids, how I managed to master my air guitar.

I saw him with Oz back in the day and he was amazing. Oz was throwing buckets of water on the crowd and there were two different times Zac slipped and landed on his back. Then he like ninja jumped back to his feet and if you had not seen it you would never know he fell. Never stopped playing. No noise. That blew my mind.

I only saw Ozzy live once but Joe Holmes played guitar, not Zakk. It was strange though because Zakks band BLS played at that concert too earlier in the day, It was at Ozzfest. Holmes did a great job though, he's a good guitarist too.
