I was never a RATM fan. I liked some of their stuff but found most of it redundant. However, thanks to the magic of KZbin and interviews I certainly appreciate the band and this gentleman all that much more. Well articulated and dedicated to his craft. It's actually refreshing to "discover" something decades after the fact. What's most impressive is that RATM is so relevant today.

"Death Squads" as we called them back then: "Los escuadrones de la muerte", were basically government's and military lawless executioners for people they thought were either communists or government's detractors. That was in the Late 70s and during the Civil War in the 80s. and the CIAs intervention was recently kinda confirmed with a WikiLeaks document saying that was not only US army training soldiers, there was also a teaching on torture and interrogation techniques to fight the Guerrilla. There are many stories about that and it's the most painful moments in Salvadorian history.

I've heard some amazing professional guitarists try to mimic the infamous Tom Morello sound in RATM covers and only one was almost perfect and nobody knows em lol He's an old friend of mine that succumbed to his debilitating OCD and other mental health problems but refuses treatment and has for years.
