The cool thing about Louie's playing is there is no note or phrase that is wasted , and you can hear the melody through out the lead . Then there is his phrasing , it's like a great horn player with spaces and silences , and speedy passages are for color not for flash . Also Louie is a " in the pocket " rhythm player , and he is just as great just laying down the groove. It would be great if Larry Carlton, Lee Rittenour, and Louie made an album . They could call it" THE 335s" -It would be a guitarist's wet dream of goodness.

So this is what a mature player sounds like: no flashy stuff, just beautiful phrasing, great note choice and tone. Love it man. I don't care about the 10 year old kids that can play 64th notes. This is what your goal should be as a player. Unless you like to talk a lot and talk really fast LOL. Your playing should reflect who you are and how you speak. That's what I mean by a "mature player". Just my 2 cents. Love ya Louie

Nice to know there are players like Larry Carlton man enough to admit and respect their influences. How could you play with this man in the studios and not want to play like him? Everybody in the seventies wanted to sound like Larry,, but Louie was Larry’s tone and taste guru.

@@JGLEASON72 He's probably thinking melodically in the purest sense. He's been a world class guitarist for so long that if he knows the tune he can just blaze through it like this because he knows the music and theory so well that any melody he's playing will just lock in like it should.
