you put that on a shirt and people will think you don't brush your teeth.

@@matemindak384 on Freddie’s behalf he did start with “SOMETIMES brushing”… i just thought it wouldn’t look cool in my bouldering themed t-shirt 😎

"If you look at something and say 'it's not my style,' you are now morally obligated to give it a go" is actually really good advice 😂

It's fun to climb with someone that has a different preferred style to you, cause you end up climbing their climbs and because they send it you end up projecting it until you get it as well (usually with lots of frustration and swearing in my case)😅

Great video :) On a sidenote: I'll never understand why centers decide to use the color of the holds in order to determine the dificulty... it limits the setters options so much. Climbed in a gym where they did it like that a couple of times and it gets stale so quickly because you mostly climb on the same holds every week.
@essie23la
@essie23la Жыл бұрын
my local gym does that, but they switch up some of the colours a few times a year so eg. last year's yellow was ~V2, now it's ~V5 so that somewhat solves the staleness, plus the grading overlaps so much you never only do one colour anyway

Completely agree, coloured tags on start holds to indicate difficulty makes so much more sense

Not only that but I feel like it would get depressing trying to break through a long plateau. Imagining being stuck with a single color for months and months at a time seems like it would mentally fuck with you after a while and really kind of "rub it in" after a while, I'm so glad my gym doesn't do this it does seem terrible.

Yeah they sell colored tape lol. It actually looks weird.

My gym does the opposite actually: You can climb on anything and there aren't even clearly defined walls any more. Or roofs, to be honest. There are big trees and they even have elephants and those beasts from LOTR that you can hop onto like Legolas did in that one, important battle. It's fire really.

The new site looks great, the walls look so clean and seemless. Onwards and upwards for The Boardroom. Freddie smashing it, keeping pace with Captain Cutloose himself. Outstanding work both.

"You can't ignore good advice you give other people"... as a climbing coach, I like to think I want to stay sharp and with both the best research as well as keeping familiar with the worst habits to help my clients correct them (I say as I spend maybe a minute between attempts and forgot a snack for a session that will be slightly longer than should)

This is my local gym now, since there wasnt one here earlier. Quite a nice gym, and recently they changed the system, so instead of a color being a grade, now theres little plates that tell you what grade it is, and I must admit I got confused when I was climbing a red one (used to be v3) and it was all jugs! Turns out it was a v1🤣

Great video as always, but I really wonder why gyms still limit their setting by the color of holds 🤷‍♂️

21:21 That's such an interesting foot move, with the right foot, I have never seen that before (except when he did it like a few times earlier in this video) very smart. I find my self strugling where to put my feet sometimes when im at the last move, will give this one a go for sure!

Man, UK gyms really do like their hold color = difficulty paradigm
@JamesClimbs

Our gym moved away from it about a year ago and the quality of the sets just shot up immediately. Grades based on coloured holds get stale so quickly, and the setters are so limited that soft climbs get set that are "close enough" all the time. Coloured tags on start holds, or a proprietary number system works so much better.

I have to be honest, these climbs were mostly just go straight up and as the grades go up the holds get progressively worse. It might be good training but I think it is quite boring.
