Erik was one of my best friends… and I was lucky enough for him to call me his best friend. His Dad who I really loved, Rich, passed away from cancer. My dad passed maybe a week or two after his… ( which is 2 years ago today). Erik was hurting. We had a long talk about losing our dads and everything else. Erik was sober and I had no immediate concerns about him relapsing. A few days later, he was hit by a van. He was traveling in between gigs on a bus and I believe had an anxiety attack. (I talked with the man who saw Erik get off the bus because he actually had Erik’s phone) The bus driver let Erik off the bus, on a highway, in freezing temperatures (it was around when Texas had that horrible snow storm). Failed to notify the police. And he was killed walking down a dark highway. I loved Erik like a brother. He was funnier off stage than on. Nobody made me laugh like him. He was truly brilliant and could make anything funny immediately. He had a good heart and was always caring and easy to talk to. I miss him all the time….

I was right by our comedy club (I've been doing stand up locally close to 10 years in current time) so I went there to get out of the rain. It was a Thursday around 3pm. Eric Meyer never showed up so they bumped the feature to headliner, host to feature, & asked if I wanted to MC the weekend. I believe that was the beginning of Erik's last relapse. He was so damn funny. RIP :/
