Brilliant and for reasons I can’t quite express adequately, this weekends rugby was such a positive affirmation of the best the game can be , not just the quality of the play but the spirit in which it was played . The International rules around who you play for seem irrelevant when we get to see such a wonderful spectacle and such mutual respect across all the teams who played yesterday win or lose .

@@dgoodall it’s not a reach. And I didn’t say his accent was Italian. I said it had an Italian Lilt to it that alot if british people with an Italian parent have. I’ve studied linguistics and for anyone with any knowledge in the formation of languages it’s easy to hear. Like I said in my original comment “to the untrained ear it just sounds like an English accent” but To the trained ear you can hear the influence of Italian at the ends of each word. They a clipped differently from just a standard English accent. My wife was born in Japan but grew up in England from the age of 4 and still has the influence of Japanese on her cadence and tone. You can hear it in all cultures in the uk even amongst people born in he UK but with non uk parents. Their accents will still reflect their parentage, be it Jamaican English, Pakistani English , Yiddish English, Nigerian English etc. for instance someone like Ugo Monye most would say has a pretty decent English accent. For a linguist like me I can easily hear the Nigerian in the tongue shapes and the ending of consonants. Each culture will have a distinct colour and tone unique to their background within the English accent they have. I wouldn’t expect someone who doesn’t have the ear to hear these things to hear it and yes for them it a “reach” but for those of us who understand and have studied accents it’s actually quite obvious. He has pretty much the same English accent a lot of northern Italian British born people I have come across have. Specifically Northern Italian

Born and bred in Italy , started to play mini rugby in the Benetton Treviso Academy, for being born in the country he's got automatically the Italian citizenship. In addition he speaks fluent Italian with the typical northeastern venetian intonation as he grew up in Treviso ( his mother is Italian).

I don’t think he considers himself Aussie at all Grew up in Italy and England. Michael obviously played for Benetton for a long while and his Mum is Italian. I’m a Quins fan - gutted he left, he’s a great player. Lovely lad too, great reflection on his parents and wish him a stellar future with the Azzuri
