I once stood on the Tee of a 550 yard, down hill, in a canyon, the wind behind me, and very dry ground, hole in a canyon in Utah. I never played the course before, and couldn't see more than 250 yards down the fairway due to it sloping down out of sight. I was told there was a 30 yard gap to cross that was over 300 yards out. I asked, "where is the bridge?" They said, "Just left of the fairway... We spent 10 mins looking for it near the gap (and a little in the gap) then I dropped a provisional in front of the gap and hit it to the green (it should always be called a provisional just incase you find it further than you thought). We headed off towards the still un-seeable green and... well, It turns out I did hit the bridge! It bounced further down the fairway than we had looked... down in to the middle of the fairway sitting on the 100 yard "plastic ball" marker dead center of the fairway... 450 yards! Thank God I had 3 witnesses!!!! But, it was in the 90's, so no camera phone.... Yeah, I'll never forget that...

He hit the ball left, but it had a sufficient slice on it to land on the road and bouncing down the road. About 5 years ago I was playing in a scramble tournament. Playing a par 5 around 480 yds. For our 2nd shots we had about 250 yds to the green. I hit a 4 wood that the one player in our 4 some could follow (we are all in our 60's, eyes not so good anymore). He is watching the shot and then shouts it hit the cart path on the fly, bounded way up in the air and he lost it. As we get close to the green, we see a white spec right by the hole. Was my ball, 2 1/2 feet from the pin. Quite the eagle. Did not win the tournament though as there were some ringers playing whose 4 some finished 12 under par. I think we finished 1 or 2 under.

The ball sailed over both our heads into the parking lot, bouncing, bouncing, bouncing towards the golf course entrance, where a car had to swerve violently to avoid being struck. It went across the street, down a driveway, into a back yard. We waited for the guy to come up and I asked what he hit. " 5 iron." Well, you just hit a 400 yard 5 iron. I remember seeing David Duval crush a ball back in his prime before he won the open I believe. But it flew at least 300.. hit a few paths and wound up being playable. He made birdie. This was on a non links course

Charl Schwartzel drove the green at the Open Championship on hole 15, a 448 yard par 4, this weekend. No cart path was involved, just a ridiculously fast fairway.

Longest drive in history of PGA San Antonio TX Oak Hills number three I believe. Similar situation. 700+ yards. Player hit a three wood wedge to get back to the green.

He hit his shot, the other guy hit his and came to rest, and his is still going and going and going, like the energizer bunny.

funny how the ball seemed to find a little notch in the curb which made it come to a complete stop...did he get a drop ? what was his tally on the hole

Cart path will do it easily. I am an old duffer, age 64. My typical drive is low 220-230s. I use cheap Kirkland balls. Once in a while, I'll pull a 250+ out of my rectal region. But earlier this summer I got TWO bounces that carried my ball 400. So a pro hitting one 500? Sure. Those guys are monsters on the T.

He got so lucky. I would have loved to see announcers reactions if it kept going.

I wonder if this drive counted toward his driving stats for that season

I was on a par 5 in 2 and 5 putted! That green was like putting on the hood of a car!
