Hi Andrew, great video! I noticed there are a lot of places where Louis's lower body is cut off, which makes it tough to understand his footwork. Just something to watch out for.

If this is a consistent channel where Louis climbing content is coming out that's awesome! My notes for sure would be 1. get a directional on-camera shotgun rode to hear more of Louis more clearly. 2. If you can't get a better mic, 100% mix your own voice way down and mix his up in post, right now your voice is booming since it's right next to the mic and it's jarring when trying to focus on the subject of the video, the climber.

Definitely get a shotgun. It also sounds like he's recorded his own voice and added added it in post, it's really jarring.

He does use a shot gun mic. They don't work like zoom lenses - you can't pick up sound from a long way away. Most shot gun mics - especially ones designed to sit on top of cameras - have a polar pattern that picks up sound mainly from the front but also picks up sound from the back so that you can hear the person filming. The problem here is that Andrew is 1 foot away from the mic and Louis is 10 feet away so obviously Louis will sound like crap. The only way to fix this is to use a lav mic for Louis, but then that could get in the way; or get an extra person in to boom a mic overhead of Louis, which is obviously totally impractical. The lav mic would probably work best of the 3 options. Shot gun mics on top of cameras are terrible and should never be used because, as this video proves, mics only work when they're within 2 feet of the subject. Having a shot gun mic on top of the camera is why so many KZbin channels, like this one, have bad audio.

Upon further examination, what looked like a massive cloud of pot smoke rising from behind the wall @ 16:50 was actually the chalk cloud from Louis' hand slap on the top boulder.
