Louis Prima & Keely Smith: On Stage (Full Vinyl Album 1960)

Here is a great live album that Louis, Keely, and Sam recorded for Dot Records in December 1960. I didn't like the audio quality on the Jasmine CD, so I've dubbed my vinyl record so that you can listen to it too. Enjoy!

Thanks for the caution about the Jasmine Records CD. Jasmine usually puts out decent sounding CD's so good to know their CD of this one is not so good.

No worries! Actually, all of their CDs of Louis, Keely, and Sam are somewhat muffled (except for Louis' instrumental ones, ironically considering that Sam claimed they were recorded by a session musician). Of course, they are by no means unlistenable, but the LPs sound way better.

I’ve been keeping an eye out for mint condition copies of the Dot albums because the CDs were so muffled by CEDAR thanks for sharing, this really pops!

Do you know if this is in mono or stereo?

This is the stereo edition. A mono version was recorded and released, too, but I have not heard it.

Absolutely! Dot had been recording stereo for at least two years by this point, so they were quite good at it. I imagine the recording had a three-track master with the rhythm section on the left, the lead instruments on the right, and Louis’ vocals in the middle-exactly how you’d hear them on stage. Like I said, I’ve never heard the mono edition, so I don’t know if they used the same master tapes, microphones, or tape edits.
