Louis is just the best. He has done some of the best investigative documentaries ever. He is so polite and mild mannered that he lulls his subjects into a false sense of security and is always respectful when asking hard questions. The Jimmy Savile doc shows how foul he was, which many people were oblivious of. I didn't like Savile before the truth came out because he was never real. His enablers should be prosecuted or at least outed. Can't wait for this.

You've spent weekends with Louis??!! Luckeeeh!
@tomlennon34698 жыл бұрын
Weird weekends was his best work, they were great. This film seems to be more along those lines than his more recent work and I'm glad. I don't know if you've seen his recent work - it's what I'd call 'easy to make' documentaries about mental illness/drug addiction etc which his style of film making is really lost on.
@KnightmareUSA8 жыл бұрын
The Scientology episode feels like a follow on from Weird Weekends, yet all recent episodes have been lauded as 'more mature' by some media critics. With scientology, it may suddenly become a mature issue when you have many lawyers on your back watching and waiting - so I suppose it's a mix of both worlds. Everything he has covered before from his previous Weird Weekends and some specials thereafter was completely serious to the oddball cults and believers. The wiki has the most recent episode (A Different Brain) as episode 27 of these bbc2 specials, with the first from 2003. Reading that episode list, I suppose the topics have become more serious as the years have gone by. Whether the serious truly outweighs the odd on what can be covered in the real world is hard to tell. I'm not sure if a new Weird Weekends series could really happen. Serious topics may appeal more to the general public rather than his own cult following of believers ;) but I agree that his laid back method of interrogation is best suited to what is out of the ordinary

Louis Theroux is one of my favorite humans. I have watched every single one of his documentaries, some more than once, and he's just a genuine intelligent passionate and humbled human being. One scene that sticks out the most is during the _Louis Theroux and the Nazis_ doc. He's invited to a straight up unabashed unrepentant Nazi/AB/Skinhead whatever the fuck parasites house and the guy is desperately trying to get him to answer whether or not he's Jewish. Theroux, demonstrating tact and humility simply says, and I'm paraphrasing, _I don't think that matters, for me to answer would give it some importance_ (in this context) ... desperately trying, in return, to find the humanity in this guy; the one single place where they could relate and disregard all the arbitrarily created categories we use to distinguish one another often used as a means of oppression or to justify harm. He's one of the few people alive today I'd love to have long conversation with about life.

Methods for reaching a supreme-like existence is a sure sign of false belief-systems and together these makes a set of (maybe not minimal) sufficient, but not necessary, conditions of a false faith or ideology: 1. Extreme strong belief in texts written by one person, that also contain detailed descriptions of a permanent form of desirable existence, as reward for accepting the ideas and methods. 2. Naming the nonbelievers by degrading names. 3. Retribution acts against those who leave the faith. 4. When trying to discuss their faith or ideology they turn the discussion over to something else, often personal verbal attacks on the person discussing. 5. Uniform clothing, appearance and behaviour.

Scientology knows that a truthful movie about them can only be to their detriment; they HAVE to be in total control of any information given to the public The worst thing that ever happened to them is the internet. Happily, that is something they cannot control. The woman in this clip shows their desperation to control things, and that reflects on how paranoid the Church is. I love watching this so-called church self-destruct a little more every time their behavior is captured on film and posted to the net. Catherine cannot do other than what she's instructed otherwise she'll end up in RPF.
