MrZillas no....they like if you have money but if you don't you can dedicate your life by working for them for slave wages, then when you are old and not as useful you are thrown to the curb and they will ignore you because you no longer have anything to offer them. So in the end one ends up poor, homeless, no special skills , rejected, no pension and maybe sick but still brainwashed or hypnotized by the cults doctrine. Then one realizes that they wasted their life with all their sacrifices for the cult with nothing to show for it.

ekim andersom well I wouldn’t go that far. I will say I am a stark atheist and refuse to give up those views but I digress. I know many people whom religion has helped a lot and there are many good people who just want a higher power someone to guide them dare I say through life but are untimely good hard working people. Unfortunately on the other we have extremist beliefs and cult like religions which disgrace people who are genuine nice people who unfortunately believe in something which does not exist. I’m not here to argue but I do feel bad when all religious people are grouped together under one generalized hateful term or opinion.

I heard the story of why Cruise got into Scientology, and I can see his loyalty in one way. Cruise is dyslexic. Now, this affects your reading skills, and hindered him when he was starting out as an actor. He turned down roles because he was misreading the writing on the page. His then wife, Mimi Rogers, who was a Scientologist, suggested a course which would help his reading, and "cure" his dyslexia. Apparently, the method of reading he learnt in the Scientology class helped him greatly, which helped him to read scripts and audition for more role, thus his success. So, you see, he gives Scientology the credit for his movie success. So he started attending, but because of auditing sessions, there might be many secrets they now blackmail him with. So I can understand him joining initially. I heard that the basic courses at the bottom are normal enough, but they indoctorine you to get you to pay money for the higher courses.

Holmes should be number one. What Katie Holmes did was incredibly brave because she was fighting not only for herself, but also for her daughter. This, in my opinion, deserves to be named as the bravest escape from Scientology. Cults are scary as all hell and she managed to get herself and a small child out of the claws of Scientology, a toxic marriage, AND build a lasting relationship on top of it all. She has my utmost respect.

Scientology is not to be used to attack others but only for Defence and Katie would have been learning these skills. I was taught by a Grandmaster (Chuck Norris) and now I walk the Ancient and spiritual path to enlightenment. *Katie simply didn't have the mental fortitude and discipline to learn the ways of Scientology.*

Leah Remini also had a child and she is bad ass because she has a show on A and E helping other people tell their stories as well as holding the church accountable. So she deserves to be #1. Not only did she escape but she is helping others. Holmes does nothing for others. Btw she was barely in Scientology to begin with. Leah was in since she was 8 yearls old so she was in deep when she had the courage to brake away.

When I lived in Austin Texas, I met up with a couple of very friendly guys who introduced me to Scientology and talked about all the wonderful things that it could do to improve and upgrade your life. I took one course at their Org on Guadalupe Street across from the flagship UT campus. After going through the hour and a half long course, I started getting suspicious about this whole Scientology thing. The guys known as auditers started noticing my change of heart and tried to stop me from leaving their rented facility. These were muscular guys dressed in all black and they were not pleasant to deal with when you harbor second thoughts. I managed to get around them and ran out that front door never to return. The sad thing is they had my mailing address and I was getting bombarded with their bullshit mail every other day. Even when I moved they would manage to get my new address. A few times they would call me and I would tell them to stop sending me mail and stop their harrassment of me. That fell on deaf ears at first but than when I threatened to call authorities on them they started to back off. That was a real eye opener for me that night back in August 1993.

One of my best friends tried this crap back in the late 90s. He quit because they always wanted money, the reasoning they gave him was he needed to be "cleared", it was a process, they told him. He spent so much money on their "evaluations" he almost went broke before he wised up. Thank goodness he did. It's no wonder so many rich people love this cult, as that's what it is, because you can only afford it if your rich. I remember being so relieved when my friend told me he was done with it. His experience just solidified my aversion to any faith or group that is basically a secret society. My mother wanted me to join the Eastern Star back when, so I asked her what it was about. She wouldn't tell me, so I figured that if my own beloved mother couldn't tell me, then I'd be damned if I joined. The reason I brought up the experience between my mom and me is because Scientology reminds me so much of the OES, Shriners, Freemasons, Skull & Bones, etc. Basically, there's no way I'd join a group without knowing some of what was in store for me beforehand.

Mega-success leaves you with a hole in your soul that is not usually addressed by mainstream religions, which have traditionally concentrated on alleviating the pain of the wretched. If you feel the pain of the ultra-rich you need a religion that tells you it is e.g. because you are secretly a member of a superior species (or something like that). This also explains the appeal of Buddhism to Hollywood stars, by the way.

I made it clear that I could not provide any money and I never heard from them again.

I doubt it will come back for the reason of him not being a scientologist anymore, because he was in the cult while on My Name Is Earl. Also, because the writer Greg Garcia, although not a scientologist, has shown interest in it. Aswell as that, Giovanni Ribisi is one, Ethan Suplee who plays Randy is (and his real life father who plays willie the postman is a scientologist) and also various other cast members of My Name Is Earl. It might suprise some people to know that Bart Simpson (Nancy Cartwright) is a scientologist too.

That's why he left South Park and they killed him. Everything in that episode is true. I looked into Scientology in my 20's out of curiosity and couldn't bring myself to actually pursue it after visiting the "church" in Atlanta. It was bizarre and nothing like what celebrities like Tom Cruise make it out to be. They are the exceptions to all the rules one must follow in Scientology.

Old-Guy-Rants. Yup. They disapproved of South Park making fun of them, and forced him to quit. So Matt Stone and Trey Parker kicked up the razzing a notch, and started getting death threats. Even worse, their homes were broken into, and there were signs indicating that if it didn't stop, next time they'd break in when they're home and the death threats would be carried out. Pretty fucked up, if you ask me. I was in Scientology for about 6 months, but I'm bipolar, and they made me quit my meds. Then (thank God!) they kucked me out because I was too crazy for them.

I remember back in 06-07 there was suddenly a HUGE flock of scientologists everywhere in San Francisco. They set up dozens of stands on the streets in front a malls and shopping centers and tourist attractions, coaxing people to take a "free stress test" using the e-meter. I watched a friend take the test....and surprise! She was stressed and was trying to be coerced into buying some book and releasing certain personal information. A 2 min "test", then fill out some umpteen page long "info sheet". We waited til no one was looking and ran away. We tried to avoid them....but they were EVERYWHERE at the time.

The reason I became fascinated with Scientology was because I took the first "course" in the 70s when I was 19. Did some more research, not easy without the internet, and made it my mission to get people OUT. I would HARDLY say I was a former Scientologist although apparently for this top 10 I would have. Worked for one, though, who was OT VIII. Got him to see the truth it was a cult. Took the class with a famous musician who is also out now.
