you can almost hear the chiming bells of Westminster Cathedral! Very nicely presented!

So heartening to know that Dr. Sean Jackson has such a ready cohort of capable and qualified individuals to whom he can turn for reliable guidance on how to better his "not bad" technique and "barely any emotions" rendition!! For my part, I have enjoyed his interpretation of this splendid piece. It may be instructive that none of the critics here have identified themselves as professional organists. Always allow your understanding room enough to grow.

Wow! This song is the top of the hour performance piece in many home mechanical clocks. Lovely! I didn't know the song had a history outside of clocks. Thank you for playing and recording this piece, Dr. Jackson!

Perfect interpretation of a well-memorised piece. Beautiful performance but what is better, you do the composer of the piece and the piece itself great justice. Now we all know how well you tap dance too.

One of the hardest things as a musician is to tackle a piece which is known to everyone who loves the instrument you play - and this is just one of those pieces. I imagine everyone who plays the organ thinks they know how this should go - even if they don't play it themselves. Personally, I found this performance technically assured and musically compelling. And very enjoyable too. Congratulations!

Performance seems ok to me. Every performer is entitled to their own degree of 'interpretation'. Whether you like the instrument itself is also up to the individual. For me, I once heard this piece being played in Westminster Abbey whilst sitting in the Quire. The chimes of Big Ben were had just finished when the performance began. Nothing else compares before or since, nothing else stands up to that performance given by Simon Preston back in the mid-1980s.

@PumpkinPuffer Blacks can bexcellent organists, and surgeons, and singers, and bricklayers, and pilots, and attorneys, and plumbers, and engineers, etc., etc. He can improve this and make it absolutely wonderful. His pedal facility is excellent!

Dear Mr Jackson!! You played very well, but in the beginning the feft hand should play more quiet. i use only a Principal 8 in the left hand with closed recitand accouppled!! best wishes!!

Sigh...why do people always have to start a fight when someone criticises a performance. Everyone has the right to express his opinion as long as it doesn't get offending. I would be careful when estimating a users competence only based on the shortness of their comment. You might be wrong...Maybe I should write a whole essay? But that would go way to far... I recommend Ben van Oosten's recording of this piece in St. Ouen, France. There you'll hear everything you need to know. Kindest regards.

Tempo rushes in some places. No ritardando, such as at 4:39 and other places where it would be natural and welcome? Seems rushed and mechanical. At 4:24 I slightly lengthen the pedal notes. At 5:32 I do not shorten the pedal and left hand notes. I make the chords longer and more powerful. Nice, clean performance but disappointing. Wonderful hands! Well done video!

Forgive me for not seeing the need for the majority of this comment. "Can be" needs to be replaced with "are", since ethnicity and talent/skill have never been at odds with each other. All ethnic groups are possessed of the same faculties. It is usually lack of opportunity (for whatever reason) that creates any misconception.
@LutarezHH13 жыл бұрын
This guy's technique is not bad, but I have to agree with "iomanorgan" that there are barely any emotions. It's too straight, no effects, sometimes way too fast! But it looks like the touch of the manuals tempts to play in an unmusical way...

OMG! You buy a CD of organ music you like and then burble on about the organist not showing any emotion?! What is Dr Jackson supposed to do - bow and scrape at the console with a cheesy toothpaste smile on his face? Such criticisms are vacuous and unhelpful. Dr Jackson may well one day approach the stature of his namesake (retired) of Yorkminster.
