Next week I promise we will be back to the fun, lighthearted content. But what are your thoughts on this whole saga and why do you think this collaboration has not seen the same outrage or received the backlash that many in the same situation, in today’s climate would face? Let’s talk about it!! XO 😘

This kind of thing infuriates me 😤 I have no tolerance for racism and any form of discrimination and it's crazy how these brands don't take accountability because they know they'll get away with it! If the comments were targeted towards another race, of course Louis Vuitton would run to apologise that's just the way it is and its very sad 😔

I think Louis Vuitton was aware of this but they still went ahead thinking they might get away with it. Because, there has been a discussion about the influencers it chose for this collaboration, probably 99% of them are 'not black'. Maybe they were scared that sending these collab pieces to black influencers will draw a lot of attention from followers who would probably call out the influencers for seemingly supporting racism. Now, from a personal point of view, I think this collab is very non-effort, I don't see any creativity behind it, it is actual trash to be honest. I definitely will not be buying anything from it.

To answer your question, the outrage would be so much greater, louder had her views been about another race other than the black race. Big brands actually don’t care about racism against black people. They just pretend to, but they don’t. They also know that even black people themselves will never hold them accountable for their bs. We’re the very same people who will go and purchase LV like it’s going out of style…even in the midst of this controversy. So in a way, we’re our own worst enemy. As for the collab itself, I actually think the dots cheapen the brand’s aesthetic appeal, especially the multicolor ones. It’s the most unimaginative collaboration. I cringe every time it see any of the promo content on my timeline. It’s ugly.

You should see what the stores look like. They have the dots everywhere and human size dolls of her in store. Black people will for sure continue to shop the brand. I think that’s an interesting topic to explore actually🤔. I have many thoughts on this

I think the outrage is less because it's " just racism" we live with every day. The Balenciaga crap got the outcry because there were children/fetish/bondage involved and that is not "normal" in the most peoples eyes. Racism unfortunately is. That is just my opinion.

And that's why I made the comparison between her and Kanye. Anti Semitism and Anti Blackness are exactly the same but somehow we see real outrage and consequences with what Kanye said but no outrage or consequences here. The hypocrisy is loud. But then again, most people just do not care because Anti Blackness is normalized

Great video 👍 I find the collection a hot mess!! It’s nothing amazing about it. Let’s be honest if a local artist were selling these items, most people would not be quick to support and praise the pieces. For transparency, I did buy a bandeau because I understand the value it will hold in the future. However, this was prior to me knowing her racist history. The answer to your question is a big “NO!” Had she said it about the Jewish community - this would have made mainstream headline news. And LV PR would have sent out some well curated apology. But sadly, a lot of people don’t care about injustices against black people.

I think it was deliberate - it’s engagement bait. I believe that they saw what happened with Balenciaga and took a calculated risk that whatever backlash they would receive would not detract from the free promotion they would receive (eg me a non fashion girl was not aware of this collab til I saw this video). It’s deliberate, they don’t care and they are counting on the outrage to build up the hype
@LEANINGINTOLUXE
@LEANINGINTOLUXE Жыл бұрын
That’s one way of looking at it. But the collab was well underway before the Balenciaga saga. They just hadn’t launched yet but we were already seeing visuals and knew it was coming. you would think seeing what happened with Balenciaga and Kanye, they would have reconsidered. But like you said, maybe they were counting on the mild outrage for free marketing

Fantastic video and I am appalled by both LV and Kusama. You really hit the nail comparing the SWIFT action that was taken with Ye/Yeezy for what his antisemitic comments vs how complicit these companies were when he was making anti black statements. Fashion really don't care for anti blackness and that's always been a historical element. From Gucci to Dolce and Gabanna all of these brands in one way or another has participated in anti blackness. It seems like it's an issue to gloss over on a macro scale. Smh at the end of the day, I agree, being performative with "burning" or "cutting" these already purchased items isn't solving the issue. LV needs to be held accountable-- and I say that as an active consumer of the brand. Not enough people are outraged (outside of Tim Tok).. and I do wonder how many people in the lux community are even aware of this. Thank you for talking about this. Conscious consumerism is important.
@LEANINGINTOLUXE
@LEANINGINTOLUXE Жыл бұрын
Oh I 100% believe more people in the LUX community are aware. but like I said when responding to another comment, not all of us are going to speak because we are always more concerned about staying in the good graces of these brands. we want to be on the PR lists and go on the PR trips. I get why people are pretending that this conversation isn’t going on.

@LEANINGINTOLUXE
@LEANINGINTOLUXE Жыл бұрын
It’s interesting because at least if they attempted to make excuses we would have some insight into what they were thinking. But LV has chosen to remain silent and are acting like there is no conversation being had. There aren’t enough people questioning this collab, or should I say, the people that matter. LV is not concerned about being called out by little accounts like mine. And that’s the real shame, because those with real influence are concerned about their pockets and the ability to possibly work with the brand or get on the PR list so they are mute right now. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Let's be clear -- black people have always been marginalized and we (as a people) have been foolish, always supporting these businesses with our dollars. Trust and believe, this foolish and racist women got caught, but most (if not all) of the founders, CEOs and regular workers for these fashion houses feel the same way, and I am sure awful things are said and discussed behind closed doors. So, none of us (as black people) could never really know when we are supporting business owners, fashion houses, managers and CEOs that are racist in their hearts.

No human is perfect, nonetheless they could create beautiful art. I think like Hamsun, he symphatised with the nazi, but created high litterature art for the history to remember. To cancel every human culture stained with human flaws i think we would risk becoming poor culture with less creative ideas. Thats just sad
@LEANINGINTOLUXE
@LEANINGINTOLUXE Жыл бұрын
If you watched the video I was not asking that we cancel her, not even anything close to that. But I think it is very telling that we are open to seeing the art in spite of the artist when it is certain people or when the offended demographic is the black people but we are ok to throw the art out with the artist when it comes to offending other demographics. I am not for cancel culture. I personally agree with you that as humans we are flawed and it is human to err. My video was prompted by the very different reaction this collaboration is getting when you compare it to a very similar and recent situation that happened with Kanye.

I am with you! This collaboration is so useless and supports my impression that LV lost themselves. I am glad I last year got my classics and signed off. When you compare this with the Sprouse collection for example there is no way this will hit the spot for most. It's just like the Wallart where people you know what on and sell for millions🤣 but I doubt that is going to happen here!
