Fascinating. I knew virtually nothing about the history of the Belgium and it's monarchy besides the horrors of the Congo. Thank you!

We do have an interesting history... I might do a few more videos on Belgian Royalty up to Leopold III who abdicated after WW2, after having lost the trust of the people due to having surrendered Belgium to the Nazis in 1940... We also had a queen who died in a car accident (Astrid) and a king (Albert I) who died in a mountaineering accident... Plenty to tell there...

@@TheKingsofFrance Please do that! very interesting family! I didn't know you were Belgian and not French. That would explain your accent not sounding typically French.

It was nice she was so popular among her people in the end. Thank you for telling about the life of this, for me, unknown Queen. I think it's remarkable that many of the Belgian Kings were called Leopold. Remembering Queen Astrid who was Swedish. Thank you very much! 😊❤️

Glad you liked this video... There were three Leopolds... The last one abdicated after WW2 due to having lost the confidence of his people after surrendering Belgium to the Nazis in 1940. Might be a good topic for another video sooner or later.

What a life she led. I cannot imagine the amount of anxiety that she might have felt in an era which went through so much change in Europe. I also admire how patriotic she was as the Queen of the Belgians. Thank you for this brilliant video.

While it's always sad to see anyone die young, perhaps she could she considered lucky to have escaped the fate of outliving her husband and seeing what a monster she helped create in her son King Leopold II. Excellent video. I am always amazed at how much information you put in what are really short videos.

By all accounts, Queen Louise seems to have been a very dignified, caring, and devoted woman, which does beg the question how her eldest surviving son, Leopold II, was able to commit all those atrocities in the Congo. Even though I can’t pretend to know that much about Belgium’s colonial history, even from what I’ve read of him being a very indifferent, if at times even cruel father to his own children, is in such stark contrast with how his mother was raised… maybe it’s a trait from his paternal side? P.S. Great music choice for this video!
