Mind blown. I feel like nobody wants to get into the specifics of pigment attributes, and this is invaluable! I would appreciate even more information on this topic. And Lost Edges! I do not think I have heard this discussed at all, and though perhaps not as deep as pigment attributes I think it deserves it’s own video as well. And absolutely you might even do a series of videos about the application of darks and/or intense colors. Clearly this would build upon the first bit about pigment attributes. Often I watch an art video and want to speed it up because it is the 400th one I have seen about painting loose florals… this more technical information is to me like water in the desert. Thank you for so many well thought out videos!

Tip #5 - paint your darks in one layer--was incredibly helpful to me. I've been painting in watercolour for 5 years and felt frustrated because I couldn't get my darks dark enough. Now I know why, and how to correct it. Thank you so much, Louise. Love your channel and watch it all the time.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Great tips Louise. About the masking tape removal a small additional tip, if you pull the tape outside the paper, perpendicular instead of parallel to the border the tape will not damage the paper. The pulling force always will go from the inner area toward the border. At the borders the fibers easier separate from each other, if the pulling starts there the tape could keep adhered some paper layers and damage the paint. This is worst if wetness is trapped on the back of the paper, no matter how dry the front is. Hope it could help someone.💫❤️

Wonderful tips, as usual! In #1, something you said made me wonder: How effective (or easy) is it to layer a transparent pigment over a more opaque pigment? The reverse wouldn't work, of course, but I don't think I've ever heard any of you watercolor "gurus" talk about layering transparent over opaque. Maybe an experiment? Thanks Louise!

Yes, as a beginner, I bought several of similar paints... not knowing about pigments! Also, the same pigment can look different between 2 brands! I can't remember every variation of paint unless I kept a big chart for reference each time I painted! I suppose the answer to that is choosing colors before you start so you won't experience problems. Thank you! Love the clothes that they have gifted you! Awesome! Of course, I checked out the website!😅 I painted for a year, then as health issues surfaced, I have quit for a year... just beginning to swatch my favorites using different brushes! I will have to begin again! With love from a California Gramma ❤

Thank you Louise I always enjoy your tips and paintings, I was hoping you might say how you know if a colour is opaque, transparent or granulated before buying
@LouiseDeMasi Жыл бұрын
Thanks Lyn. Sometimes you can read that on the tubes of paint. The paint manufacturers have a symbol system. There's often a little square on the tube. If it's blackened - it's an opaque colour and if the square is not filled in, it's a transparent colour. Check the paint manufacturer's websites for more details.

Thank you for this useful tips...even though I know the most of them I struggle sometimes because I don't have enough patience for planning my work. But what I learned also today: don't use rough and heavy paper (Hahnemühle 600 gram) if you want to paint detailed ...the face of my young Ballerina now has furrrows in her face and the whole picture failed.

So useful!! Thank you so much! These are things that I feel will elevate techniques to a more professional level! I especially enjoy the concept of lost edges! You are so right about a lost edge bringing depth or movement to the subject! The painting of the boy, where you have the lost edge on his shoe, and it blends into the brown, really makes it feel like he's kicking up some dust from the ground! I can almost smell it! Just brilliant! Thanks!
