As an individual who is from Maine and has a significant portion of Acadian ancestry, it was very cool to see representation. One interesting thing to note is that in some of the northernmost parts of maine, there are significant French populations with a very unique English accent that is heavily influenced by French pronunciations. I went to Maine (Bar Harbor, specifically) a couple months ago, and the most fascinating thing I learned there was when my dad and I went on a kayaking trip, and we saw some lobster traps. Our tour guide told us how the entire lobster industry in the state is run by family-owned businesses and no big corporations. He also mentioned how the industry has exploded in Maine because of warming Atlantic Ocean temperatures, which have made the Maine coast more habitable for lobsters. However, of course, this probably will become problematic as oceanic temperatures continue to warm, and the lobsters migrate further north up along the coast of Canada, which would be devastating for Maine, since it's a more than $60 million industry for a state with a population of around 1.2 million.

As a Mainer myself, I’m glad you pointed out french history, but to be frank, it was the wrong history. French settlement occurred when hundreds of thousands of Québécois had moved down to Maine following mass economic issues throughout Canada, especially differences between English and French industry, with legal discrimination against the French Canadians. Most Of the French in Maine trace their heritage back to those québécois from the 1880s.

Originally from Queens, but my grand parents has had a Lakehouse in Maine since the 1950s oh my grandfather and his friends came home from the war and build three houses together. We still have it in our family and it’s my favorite place in the world, Summers and Maine are unbelievably beautiful, The lakes are unbelievably clean and consist of pretty much Poland Springs water especially considering the town of Poland springs is right next-door lol. I couldn’t recommend it anymore for someone to go vacation in Maine it is Absolutely gorgeous and very fun, the nightlife in Portland Maine is pretty good as well

You wouldn’t enjoy lake Charles right now, after Hurricane Laura we are losing our downtown. Our largest tower was so heavily damaged the insurance refused to pay soo. We’re about to become an even smaller town. Which means we’re moving in the wrong direction. Honestly soon as I’ve sold our home and find a job elsewhere, we’re moving away from this quickly sinking state. Hurricanes are becoming more frequent. Just think, we got Hurricane Laura (technically a cat 4, but gusts recorded of up to 180 mph, and sustained winds at 160- so yeah a cat 5) and then we had the cat 3 Hurricane delta strike LITERALLY 31 miles to the east of where Laura struck. Pretty much gutting southwest Louisiana. It’s a different place, people are still putting their lives back together. Hell only my fiancé and I just recently moved back home in November. By the way, one big thing you left out. Comparing food, we dominate that department

Clearly, none of you have ever been here. Occasionally people go missing only to be found only feet from the road! One girl left Cornish and was missing for days. Finally found in the river but very visible from the road. Not enough people around to see her! A friend of mine her friend survived a crash into a river but froze to death on the bank of the river near the road waiting for someone to find her. Another kid ended up in the marshes in Saco and wasn't spotted until low tide. My son went into the woods behind our house and found himself tracking for hours upon hours upon hours before finding a road. Luckily he recognized the road as Deerwander and followed it out. Our friend when visiting from away said, "Have you seen the Lyman Fire Department?" I responded, "Yes, why?" She responded, "Is that real? How can they put out fires? Are you sure that is real? You had better pray no one has a fire!!" She was shocked by how tiny it was! We don't even have police in most towns. You have to call the Sheriff or state police. And it is normal to see a random tractor driving down the road, even the highways along with a stray chicken or cow. On the islands in Casco Bay sheriffs you go bang on their house door or call for a police boat out of Portland. Mail is usually delivered by some nice lady who is just helping out at the post office if no one else can help out that day. In some places, like the islands, the mail is picked up or delivered from someone's home or from off the bow of a boat. FB pages are used to report coyotes, bears, hawks, and other predators that may be heading for a neighbor's livestock or deer, moose, turkeys, and other yummy animals that may be ready for hunting. Oh and fast food? We call our neighbor and tell him to steam us a lobstah or two so we can pick it up on the way home from work because well fishing and farming are the biggest things going on in our area. The most exciting thing round here is when a dog gets lose and everyone joins in the search for the dog!! LMAO!!

• The Acadia Acadiana thing is the only reason I knew there was any connection between the two • 11:38 it's famous, Long live the Kingfish • 14:15 we are trying to revive Cajun french through primary education schools • 19:04 we just have driskoll mountain. I've stood on the top of driskoll mountain and never would have known I was on a mountain • 22:48 I'm proud of you Mr Beat, you actually said that right! 😀 We find it funny to listen to outsiders try to say our names

@@imlastinline it actually doesn't surprise me. Our french was quite literally beaten out of an entire generation of children at school

I have lived in the state of Maine for 49 years in those 49 years 32 of them have been on the water commercial fishing. I live in the southern part of the state Saco to be exact. But I was born raised and arrested in Portland Maine. But now I am really getting sick of it and this spring I am moving to Florida 25 minutes from Miami! This was the first time I've ever seen one of your videos and I am very impressed and entertained. I am looking forward to seeing more now that I have subscribed to your Channel

There is actually a region in France called Maine, which is another possible origin for the name.

Whoa... I grew up in Grand Isle, LA. As far South as you can get in Louisiana. And as a kid, I had this map thing that also doubled as a "steering wheel" where I would pretend to drive.. But on it was the place I WANTED to go to, simply because, from my eye, it was the furthest away from Louisiana as you can get.. And that was Maine. 😆 i dreamt of moving to Maine my entire childhood and teenage years.
