I grew up in New Orleans and I remember watching this movie almost every week thruought my school days. We knew the lyrics to every song word for word and would sing a long. I even remember at recess, my friends and I would pretend to be the characters and act out the movie. The Princess and the Frog had such a chokehold on my generation of Louisianaians and honestly Im glad to have such a mainstream movie celebrate my hometown despite all its flaws

I live in Louisiana, only about 30 minutes from New Orleans. Louisiana isn’t a bad place to grow up in but now it’s dangerous. The east bank it littered with violence and my family doesn’t even go there now. I love New Orleans though because of its history and just natural beauty. Thank you for this video

6:47 So fun story, true story. Jim Cummings lived in New Orleans for a part of his life and modelled his performance as Ray on a Cajun riverboat captain he once knew.

Ngl, I’ve been binging Jenny cook videos and I like how she sees everything from a narrative of real life to literary piece rather than literary piece to real life. She reflects all of the ideas from the movies and shows to real life and contrasts them to her own beliefs and views of the world; rather than compare the ideas to everyday “norm” societal settings and events. It’s a new look on the everyday stories we grew up with. It’s tuff. I fuck wit it. Keep it up, it’s refreshing to see things from such a pure perspective.

The firefly joke got me 😂 I just found your channel the other day and have been slowly binging your stuff. You're the kind of slower paced, older fashioned video essayist I've been starting to miss these days. Thanks for that!

4:19 - 4:26 Not gonna lie…I would love to see you do a video essay absolutely tearing apart “Zootopia” to shreds.

As someone who even as a child was deeply confused by this joke, I thank you kindly for clearing that up

Also, if you don’t mind me asking, how well does Anne Rice get New Orleans as a city and a culture in her “Vampire Chronicles” books?

Just came across your channel. You have a really interesting, thoughtful, and intelligent take on quite a few subjects, and I love it. Can't wait to see what's next.

8:57 Actually, the Second Star to the Right appears in “Peter Pan”, which is set in 1904 London while “The Princess and the Frog” is set in 1926 New Orleans.

I think it’s more of a spiritual/metaphorical origin story rather than a literal one, but you’re absolutely right about the timeline inaccuracy on my part.

Having read the whole of “Evangeline”, by the way, it is very much the story of a woman who lets her grief drive her on to persevere until she accomplishes her goals much like Tiana does in this here film.

Why wouldn’t Louisiana be fun place to grow up? I can’t be any worse than Michigan!
