The thing people always overlook about Kanye is at these award shows he always stands up for the creatives who most deserve it based upon THE ART. Everyone remembers the Taylor incident but overlooks the countless times he's given awards away to other artists he thinks deserved it more. .... I don't remember the Taylor video that won, but I sure as hell remember how the Single Ladies video looked.

At a separate award show (think it was the AMAs) he also gave his Best Male Artist award to Wayne and said he felt like Wayne was the best male artist that year and that he hopes to get it next year. And gave some award he won to UGK and OutKast for Intl Players Anthem. But people don't remember all that, they just remember the stage crash. He's always been about recognizing the true top talent and highest effort in that year for award shows. He takes it more seriously than the voting committee does

Honestly for me 2008 was the pinnacle of hip hop in the ‘00s. And Lil Wayne was the king. Everyone knew it and everyone still knows it. Doesn’t matter if it was one of his many features, his mixtapes, or one of his studio albums, every time he got in the booth he killed the competition. Kanye knew it and that’s why he brought him up with him. Side note: the fact that Young Jeezy and T.I. weren’t nominated is freaking puzzling to me. Jeezy, T.I., Kanye, and Lil Wayne all had huge albums drop that year. Even the Game’s LAX was massively overlooked. Just my opinion though

People don’t know this, but the BET awards goes off who was the best the previous year. In 2007 Kanye West drop Graduation, Lil Wayne drop the Drought 3. 2007 is really when lil Wayne only emerged into it or started approaching “SUPER STAR” status. Now that I look at it, yes Kanye deserve the award and it was the right pick. Lil Wayne won the fan favorite award this year at the BET awards too. I think if they let the fans choose who were the best everyone would have voted Wayne and he would have won the award. That’s why Kanye West literally pushed Wayne on the stage and let him walk first!! Bro he’s not STUPID! They all knew LIL WAYNE WAS COMING and it was for sure possible he was going to TAKE OVER EVERYTHING! And he did, the dude drop the Carter 3 and sold over 1.5 million in the first week. That’s shit NEVER happened before with no rapper! Kanye said “Wayne you scare me” bro Wayne was extremely dangerous back then he fucked clean over ANY and EVERY ARTIST for 3 years straight! That will NEVER happen again. Birthed a new generation of rappers, everyone literally dress like him talk like him and always admit that Wayne is one of their biggest influences. But best believe who won the best hip hop artists the very next year. Lil Wayne. 🙏🏽

now see THIS is beautiful. 2 of the most influential rappers ever sharing the limelight of a well deserved award. it's telling that as soon as Kanye saw Wayne he dapped him up & guided him right up there on stage with himself. & then Wayne tried to let Ye go first & Ye grabbed Wayne & took him up the stairs, arm around shoulder. it's just beautiful seeing 2 of my favorites so humbly admiring each other & amicably supporting each other!! this reminds me of Drake telling Cole he's one of the greatest of all time 👑👑👑👑

Fun fact. Three of these artists at the beginning of their careers weren't having the success they expected to have and were super bummed out and contemplating throwing it all away.. none of them did and it was all thanks to one man- CeeLo Green. Super underrated and single handedly saved hiphop

The crazy part is people during this time period, people thought hip hop was dead. The subject matter and lyrics were really dumbed down at this point. A lot of one hit wonders came out during this 05-08 period with something like a song and dance. Kanye and Wayne were on fire during this era and put out some classic material. Both are 🐐
