Live in Louisville. Do: Visit the riverfront. Great parks, spraygrounds, walk across the river on an old train bridge. Free fun! Don’t: Be knowledgeable about where you are. Western Louisville is not a good place to go if you’re a tourist, Louisville has a bad crime problem that seems to be getting worse each year. Downtown is pretty safe, just be careful going west. I’ve spent a good amount of time in those neighborhoods, not a place for a tourist to be.

Excellent video! Much more positive than I thought it was going to be, going on the title. I'm not a native, but have lived here for 17 years, so I can offer some input. Yes, we have patience when people don't know how to pronounce the name of the city, but that patience tends to run out at "Lewis-ville". Do *not* call it that. There are other Louisvilles in the U.S. that do pronounce it that way, but not this one. The Frazier Museum and the Science Center are definitely worth a stop, especially if you're here with kids. There's a museum pass, called Main Ticket, you can get that works at multiple museums and saves you a money over paying each museum's admission individually. I love how you strategically placed the stop light when you filmed the giant David downtown, lol. Yes, folks, he is two stories tall and anatomically correct. The best park system is the Parklands of Floyds Fork on the far east side of the city. Tons to do for all abilities and ages. Do not tell a Louisvillian that Louisville isn't a southern city! Louisville very much thinks it's The South. The riverfront is definitely worth a stop. We have no fewer than 3 bridges that allow pedestrians on them so you can walk from Kentucky to Indiana. Definitely take the Big Four Bridge over to Jeffersonville's beautifully redeveloped downtown. A ride on the 107-year-old Belle of Louisville is another highlight. I think one thing about Louisville that might surprise the most people is that it really is a wonderful food city. Tons of different nationalities and cuisines to choose from. On of my favorites is an Ethiopian place near Bowman Field. And there's a Chinese restaurant with actual Chinese fare, like chicken feet! Seriously, whatever your taste, you'll find a restaurant here to fit the bill. We're not just fried chicken and sweet tea. You were very kind in the way you mentioned staying safe. Louisville has suffered some bad press recently, and, unfortunately, the city does, like any big city, have its problems. Yes, we definitely have a homeless problem, and crime on the west side of town (west of 9th Street) has gotten out of hand. But, any big city will have its issues, and Louisville is no different. Come to Louisville! There's a ton to do here, and you'll get some great food.

I think the most important rules tend to be transportation related. Don't rely on busses in the city. We do not have anything close to the public transportation infrastructure for a city of this size and land area. At the same time, if you want to explore the Highlands, get an uber. The area is one or the most walkable parts of the city, but it is a nightmare to drive, and there isn't a surplus of parking. Get them to drop you off, walk, explore. Hit the side streets. Old Louisville isn't the only place with beautiful Victorian architecture. Don't think you can't get good food in strip malls. We have a surprising number of truly great places that people are reluctant to try because of their location.

You forgot to mention Kentucky Fried Chicken founder, Colonel Sanders home and his wife's famous Supper Club restaurant, Claudia Sanders Supper Club. The restaurant actually sits on his old homestead property where he lived the last 20 years of his life. It's located in the bedroom suburb of Simpsonville. It's only about 25 minutes from downtown Louisville off I-64. Their Sunday buffet is fantastic. They are open everyday except Mondays. Disclaimer, I do NOT work for or have any affiliation whatsoever, with the restaurant. Also, if you like State Fairs, Kentucky hosts one of the largest in the nation. It runs for 11 days every year in August. Check dates in advance but usually runs the second and third weeks in August. During the fair the Worlds Championship Horse Show is held. If you'd love to see some of the most beautiful horses in the world, this is the place to be. Some very famous people are in the horse business and attend this and other horse events. William Shatner, Queen Elizabeth, Wayne Newton, Shaq, Johnny Depp, Michael Jordan and numerous Presidents have attended this show along with the Derby and various horse auctions.

I would add don't expect a lot of horse racing knowledge from the locals. We act like horse racing experts two weeks out of the year but that's about it. Now if you want some basketball information you've come to the right place. We can talk your ear off about basketball 365-24-7. Basketball is a major passion around here considering The University of Louisville, The University of Kentucky, and Indiana University are all three in the top ten of greatest programs in college basketball history and all three have large fan bases here in the city. Soccer is making a huge surge here but it has a few more generations to go before it can catch up to our passion for basketball.

First; I live here: Re: Bourbon, don't limit yourself to Louisville. Get out to Nelson Co. It's worth the trip. The Old Fashioned was invented here too! The Pendennis Club is still private... but you can get a fantastic OF in many places in town. You know its first rate if the give you a Pendennis option. Unfortunately, Downtown and specifically, Fourth Street Live hasn't come back from the protests... that said, the Brown Hotel and a Hot Brown is not to be missed. Never heard of the Mega Cavern, I have heard of the Christmas lights festival, but never Mega Cavern specifically. You didn't mention Cave Hill Cemetery, it is the most beautiful Olmstead park and definitely worth a visit. Lastly, THE Derby IS just one day. The Derby FESTIVAL lasts 2 weeks. You failed to mention Thurby (The Thursday before the Oaks/Derby) which USED to be just locals, but is now much harder to attend. It may be a better way to cut your teeth. Also, come off season, check when Churchill is active there are several meets throughout the year, come get a sense of Churchill Downs, where it is, how it's laid out and where everything is. I have done The Derby just about every way possible, each have their advantages, don't feel like you need to be on Millionaires Row or the the Jockey Club, I definitely wouldn't do it that way the first time... Louisville IS a fantastic place. Come see us.

Louisville used to be a real 24/hour city however, since the pandemic, hours have fluctuated. The restaurant scene in Louisville is really fantastic, trust me, I love to eat when I go there. Try Claudia Sanders Supper club (Simpsonville). It was the restaurant operated by the late Colonel Sanders and his wife, Claudia, of KFC fame. He and Muhammad Ali are both buried in Cave Hill Cemetery. The nightlife/bars stay open very late or should I say, early (4 a.m.). Also, Ceasars Palace Casino is right across the bridge and Derby City Casinos (owned by Churchill Downs) are here.

It's also a heavily Catholic town with a lot of beautiful, old Catholic churches. In fact, Louisville has the highest number of churches period, per capita, in the USA. It goes back to the flu epidemic of 1918. Many people suddenly got religion and they also had to have a way to have all those funerals and burials.
