The new Tall Fat & Wide pedal from Lounsberry Pedals is a stereo version of the original Tall & Fat. If you want to use your clonewheel's internal rotary speaker simulator in stereo and get the warmth and tone of the Tall & Fat, you need this pedal!

It just proves how the placebo effect works.. At 06:00 Jim is showing the ring output with the pedal on and off, saying that the sound got better for the rotor, but the A-10 simulation was "on" all the time!! The Stereo A10 circuit is always engaged, even when the footswitch is bypassed. Even an expert like Jim can be tricked by placebo effect. We are humans. Love the channel anyway!!

Cool. The Neo Vent II does similar, changing the sound of the organ along with the distortion and Leslie sim. I guess it all depends on what type of sound each person wants.

Yes at 8:10 with a little more overdrive it does add a fullness and presence. It reminds me of what my SSL analog stereo compressor does. I bet the SSL G Comp (albeit very expensive class A compressor) would knock the socks off of an organ sound like this. The SSL brings up the lows, warms them up, and brings them to the front but this Tall Fat & Wide would be a nice portable affordable piece. When it comes down to it, you are getting into the subtleties of outboard processing and looking for a" take with you" portable solution. For Ex., if you put this organ through a Class A, API stereo EQ you'd be amazed and what it does to the sound. When we start getting into the studio we have many options. I think the goal is to find something affordable that you can take with you. The Neo Vent sounds great to after listening to your demo of that product.

It seems to make a difference on a clonewheel organ using internal sim but it is very subtle if set properly to be transparent with the volume. It adds a bit of low end warmth and overtone, reducing the treble eq ever so slightly.

I'm wondering if there would be a significant aural difference if the Tall & Fat were used on a Hammond XK3c, which has two tubes on board... In other words , does that particular model clonewheel already provide the saturation sound to the signal, or would there be a meaningful improvement with the Lounsberry pedal added? If so, would the mono version suffice?

Great vid! i see before where you recommended that other person to go for the Organ Grinder for more of an overdrive effect. I’m looking for exactly that & the Grinder sounds great but does it have stereo in/out like this TF&Wide does? will be used with a nord stage, so i need stereo I/O. any recommendations?

Actually, the Grinder was mono. I don’t know how Jim set up his effects, but since my Mini-Vent has mono input, I ran the grinder into the Mini-Vent, then, if I was bi-amping, I ran the Mini-Vent stereo out. I didn’t have a Leslie then, but I do now, and I ran the Grinder out into the Leslie Pre-amp in. Leslie runs mono in, special imaging by spinning😉

@@iwillnevergetone5 We’re all trying to snipe one. Remember when there were tons all over Reverb and KZbin. I can’t get a bite on an original Mini-Vent, but you can get a fortune for an original Ventilator. Scarcity breed demand. I’ve been toying with my new XK1C and the on-board Leslie is really good.

That's a common complaint of the VASE III engine used in Hammond products. The new MTG engine in the Hammond XK5 remedies that issue. The Tall & Fat helps even them out, but it can only do so much. What I usually do is just not pull the high drawbars out all the way.

Thanks for your great video. I have seen your reviews of the tall & fat as well as the organ grinder. Which pedal do you think is beter / more versatile to use on a tonewheel hammond (I have a A100 with an effectloop installed). Thanks for your advise!
@JimAlfredson
@JimAlfredson 2 жыл бұрын
I would go with the Organ Grinder. The Tall and Fat is really meant to emulate the AO28 tube preamp in vintage Hammonds. Your vintage Hammond already has one! The Organ Grinder will let you get that great overdriven growl out of the organ.

@@JimAlfredson Thanks for your answer. Problem is; I never have my volume that loud, so I can't hear my tube preamp growl. I am not looking for a heavy overdrive pedal, but really like a warm growl. Would you recommend the Organ Grinder than also?

I have a Roland VR730 which has very good organ sounds. I was wanting to enhance the sound to get a little closer to a true B3. I was wondering if I should get a Neo Vent II or the Lounsberry Tall Fat and Wide. What are your thoughts on this?

I played VR organ for 10 years. I had the Organ Grinder and a Mini-Vent. They fixed a lot of the less-than-organic sound of my Roland. A little while back I got a Hammond XK1c and a 147 Leslie. I should have gotten the XK1c years ago. The Leslie is still like moving a fridge, so the Mini-Vent is still in the live rig. It is remarkable when compared to the Leslie. If I’m playing through a PA, no one cares whether Im carrying an 8 Oz box or a fridge sized Leslie. BTW, it’s the original Mini-Vent. I set out to get a Ventilator II, but they are just impossible to find now. The ones available seem to be $600 and from Japan. The original M-V is still fantastic.
