I'm 70 years old and it's difficult for someone who didn't grow up in the sixties to understand the impact The Beatles had on popular music. They have an incredibly large and diverse catalogue of songs and to watch their musical advancement over such a short period of time was a joy and wonder to behold. No band was doing what they were doing and oftentimes they would have 5 songs in the top 10 and their number 1 songs would chart for months and months. Each album got more daring and bold and progressive and I was utterly in awe of how much they could change the direction of their sound from album to album especially after 1965 when they stopped touring and could really focus on their studio music. They forever changed the musical landscape and their influence on other generations is enormous!

@@steppingrazor5520 To me that is the hardest thing to explain to the younger listeners. How much influence they had in other areas of culture - let alone the music they produced. I am 68 and remember how the courts got involved in the length of hair allowed in school do to everyone wanting a "Beatles Cut" - against school dress codes. Kids absolutely refused to get a hair cut because The Beatles wore their hair long. My local schools were kicking kids out for having their hair over the ears and it finally made it to the courts and they ruled that you could not deny the education because of the length of the hair. And, that is just one example of the culture shock from them. And how the refused to perform a concert until it was racially integrated.

Whenever I've heard a drummer talk about Ringo it's with respect, people like Phil Collins , one of the best drummers of his generation said that many drummers couldn't even play "A Day In the Life" properly. The Ringo Roll is a thing, it comes from being left handed and if you ever hear someone smugly saying Ringo was bad you'll know they know nothing about rhythm or even music.

When Sinatra first began singing the song in concert he mistakenly credited it to Lennon/McCartney Also, Harrison was not initially pleased that Sinatra was singing his song. George was not a fan of Sinatra, who was a generation before him. He was pleased when Smokey Robinson and James Brown sang it. It was only when Harrison got older that he realized what an honor it was for Sinatra to choose to put it in his live set

While promoting, Abbey Road, in 1969, John Lennon described George Harrison's “Something” as “about the best track on the album.” Anyone that knows about Lennon's competitive nature, this is very high praise. I love Harrison's writing. This is my favorite Beatles' song and is on several of my playlists. From this same album is Harrison's "Here Comes the Sun," which I listen to once a week as one of my "get up and be thankful for the day" songs.

Paul plays this at all his concerts for his tribute to George. He starts it out by playing it on a ukulele while singing it, and then later in the song he changes to his guitar and the whole band kicks in to play the rest as it was on the recording. He starts with the ukulele because it was George's favorite instrument, believe it or not. It's really lovely doing it that way.

I truly think the Beatles are one of very, very few things that can unite all generations through love and understanding. I’m 33, and even though by the time I was born John had been dead for a decade and the Beatles had been over for 20 years, it feels like I do fundamentally understand why they have been such a huge cultural phenomenon since they first debuted. You just can’t help but love their music, their wit, their separate and united personalities. It also helps that their sense of humor is incredibly close to the type of humor younger people have today, and I actually think their humor specifically really bridges so many differences among people. Because I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t fall over themselves over “how did you find America?” “turn left at Greenland hahaha”. They were just so precious, and Paul and Ringo still being here with us genuinely feels like a gift. Hopefully I’ll be able to go see Paul live. I’ve seen some of his most recent concerts on KZbin and the guy still basically has the same energy, prowess and creativity as he did in the 70s. Which is positively insane. And I’d like to go see Ringo too. I just… love these people so much. And I feel love for all Beatles fans. ❤

George recorded his guitar solo live and with the orchestra. This was due to the fact that the Beatles had only 1 track remaining to record on. This was most likely a seperate 4 track machine that was mixed on to that final remaining track. George nailed it in 1 take. That's a tricky solo and George delivered the goods. 'Something' has become not just a classic. It entered the realm of being a bona-fide Standard. Great reaction R S R. Merry Christmas, RNB

They kind of produced their albums in pairs, with exceptions, and something new each time added showing their growth as musicians and artists. The interim album singles were kind of the shifting points between these similarities. The first two albums were very similar. Then A Hard Days Night was a sound track and so stood on its own. Beatles for Sale and Help were pretty similar, then Rubber Soul and Revolver were similar to each other in a different way. Sgt Pepper, and Magical Mystery Tour were very similar in style, while the White Album and the songs they did for the Yellow Submarine Sound track were similar to each other. Abbey Road was a stand alone, and Let It be was sort of a mish-mosh of different styles they had produced over the years less any psychedelic songs.

George’s evolution into a songwriting force to be reckoned with, while in that band, is unbelievable. That he holds the distinction of having written the two best tracks on The Beatles’ final album is an incredible feat, even if perhaps John and Paul weren’t in best form on that one. He famously soured on being treated as a little brother by those two, but also producer George Martin expressed regret later in life, that he didn’t pay more attention to George’s songwriting. All of this meant that George was arguably the happiest of the four when the band broke up - free to pursue his musical ambitions in full. Which he did. This song was covered by Frank Sinatra, who called it the greatest love song of the 20th century. Some accolade.

Keep in mind, The Beatles began recording their debut album in December 1962. While Let zit Be came out in 1970, Abbey Road was actually the last album recorded and that was finished in August 1969. So between 12/62 & 8/69 they recorded 10 full albums. 1 double album, 2 EPs, and nearly two CDs filled with singles and German language tracks. Plus they filmed two movies and a TV show, plus the Yellow Submarine animated film with a couple of new songs. And all the footage that became the old doc for Let It Be and the new amazing documentary Get Back. The Beatles were a recording band fir a very short period and didca ton in that time.

So everyone is singing the same song everywhere I go throughout the store.. it was really cool. That’s only ever happened to me one other time and it was “pretty woman” by Roy Orbison.
