Instead, enraged by Athena's persistence to kill the blinded giant, he name dropped himself.

The little interaction at 2:25 when she lets it slip that you can't ever leave the island and Ody realizes just how trapped he is. The little breakdown he gets when he realizes that after everything he went through and everyone he lost, he's now trapped and can't see Penelope, and the abject look of defeat as he lays there and doesn't even stop Calypso from coming in close.

@@samanthafoster3527 On the one hand this is a Greek Goddess and the entire pantheon is known to be cruel and possessive and to take what they want with no regard for the human's right to consent. On the other hand this is a modern retelling and more than one morally reprehensible act from the original has been changed so a modern audience can still care about these characters. Her wording is just vague enough that it's plausible she's just assuming it's a forgone conclusion that he'll fall for her and come to her bed willingly. She doesn't outright say she'll make him so there's reasonable doubt for both conclusions.

The line ‘last I checked goddesses can’t die’ is somewhat concerning coming from a goddess exiled to an island where she is being punished by getting sent heroes to fall in love with who inevitably leave her. Like, has she checked? Edit: I’ve been told her getting sent hero’s to fall in love with is just in percy jackson. However she is in many versions of the myth still imprisoned on her island, which sucks for her.

This is so well done that it's ridiculous. This is the first animatic that made me feel just as bad for Calypso as Ody. We already know she wants to be in love; she's lonely on that island. But in this, she shows genuine love for him, even if it is misguided. When she's holding him as he cries, she feels as if she's crying because she sees the man she loves in tremendous pain, even though he doesn't love her back. And even worse, we all know this won't last for her.

Fantastic animation! One thing I personally always imagine when I listen to the song is that his eyes are pink from her controlling him and in the final part of the song, while he is looking out at sea, the pink in his eyes start fading as her control wanes on him and when she says open arms, her control on him completely vanishes, and the pink from his eyes completely go away as he opens them in surprise while hearing the voices of his lost ones.

I immediately had the deep urge to push her away from Odysseus when she grabbed him initially. It only grew on the cliff scene. It tripled when he blinked, trying to imagine Penelope instead.
