Rick Beato got me here. I know nothing about music, but I can feel it.

After I saw the Beato video I was excited to go find this album and buy it. In particular for "This Will Only End in Tears." Our society is so dominated by factory products and I think it's important to actually buy from the little guy who makes something worthwhile. Locally roasted coffee, beef/pork off the farm, soap from the lady a few miles off who started her own business... and Alan Mearns. All of these things are individual. They are quality. We desperately need them.

The chromatic descending section of "This will Only End in Tears" sounds like a similar B section from the "Fuoco" movement of Roland Dyens' Libre Sonatine. Alan's compositions quote from a number of sources, in the best way, which reminds me of Don Shirley and Nina Simone. This is particularly true for his arrangement of the Bach Chaconne - there's motifs from the Well Tempered Clavier, the Keyboard Concerti and the Keyboard Partitas ("German Suite") tucked in there!

I listen this albom at least 3-5 times per week, this is not just music, but nutrition. Every time I see preview of that albom I'm drooling like a Pavlov's dog. Unfortunately, my language plateau does not let me absorb it entirely, with poetry I mean. I sure that true music can work without understanding of words, and voice can be perceived as one more musical instrument. This is that case, this is a cosmos, bravo, essa.

I'm the same age as you and did the same thing! Rick Beato pointed this out and I listened and immediately fell in love. That was just last week and after buying this album on iTunes I've listened to it at least 12 times all the way through already! This also answers the question of where I've been wanting to go with my own guitar playing. Truly an inspiration!

This is a moral issue most,younger, people don’t get. I loved Napster in the day not for free music but to find copies of old music from the 60’s and 70’s that was never released on cd. If I can buy it I will.
@taylodl2 жыл бұрын
@@willleavitt7156 I prefer to own it than to stream it. I guess I'm old school. Besides, if the artists can't make a living by creating art then there's necessarily going to be less art. I'd rather buy beautiful music like this than some piece of junk made in China that I probably don't need anyway and will just be in a landfill in a few years. So buying music is better for my soul AND it's better for the environment - which is better for my soul! It's a win-win!

Thank you for your songwriting and guitar playing, both of which are incomparable. There's a lot of very good guitar players, but there's far fewer who play this well (including me, 😀!).
