This movie is #1 on my Top Ten List as one of the greatest Romantic Films Of All Time.From script, direction,acting,and an unforgettable music score by Victor Young. Academy Award Nominations in 1945 for Best Actress(Jennifer Jones),Interior Decoration,Best Song(Love Letters),Best Music Score.They don't make films better than this.

Jennifer Jones is lovely in one of her best films. I have 3 favorites, this one , "A Portrait of Jenny", and "Gone To Earth". I think in these 3 movies the special "otherworldliness" of Jennifer is best displayed.

Surprised a remake hasn't been done, but this is so classic it would be hard to replicate. The music is so beautiful! They don't write this kind of melody anymore.

+Donna Wenger Please, I don´t think that so a wonderful film can be replicated. It is a classic and classics are unique. The mayority of the "remakes" are awful! Think only in " Gone with the Wind" or "The Wizard of Oz". They are masterpieces, no one dare to remake them!

Hi Jonathan. I see you have watched the 1945 movie which appers to be the ORIGIN of the song Love Letters. If you've watched it recently, can you confirm that the 'Love Letters' tune only appears in the film as an instrumental version - or is there a sung version in the movie as well? The reason I ak is that WikiPedia states that quote: 'The song appeared, without lyrics, in the movie of the same name performed by Dick Haymes, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1945 but lost out to "It Might as Well Be Spring". " ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Letters_(song) ) The WikiPedia statement is a little confusing to me. I'm just wondering whether/how Dick Haymes contributed to the song in the film - e.g. a voice dubbed over the actor's miming?

The only way this lovely movie could have been improved is if they'd inserted a nightclub scene with Nat King Cole at a piano singing this ballad. Joseph Cotten has to be the most underappreciated leading man of all time. Perhaps because he underplayed so effortlessly. He was also fine as a recovering PTSD veteran falling in love with a furloughed convicted killer (Ginger Rogers) in "I'll Be Seeing You" 1944. It's a shame he was shunted into 'B' movies in the 1950s. Ayn Rand was much better writing romantic scenes than philosophical/political scenes.
